The Chaplain’s Desk

About The Chaplain’s Desk

A podcast for those who serve. The Chaplain’s Desk is a quiet place to pause, reflect, and reconnect with matters of faith, purpose, and perspective. Hosted by Chaplain Kurt Richey, this podcast is created especially for men and women in law enforcement — and for those who support them. Drawing from Scripture, lived experience, and years of pastoral and chaplaincy service, each episode offers thoughtful encouragement without politics, sensationalism, or noise. Here, authority is discussed with humility, justice with mercy, and service with gratitude. These are conversations about calling, burden, restraint, and hope — spoken calmly, respectfully, and with deep appreciation for the work you do. New episodes release twice monthly, on the first and third Tuesdays at 8 a.m. Pull up a chair. You’re not alone.

   Probable Cause

In this episode, Chaplain Kurt Richey uses "probable cause" as a metaphor for how observing small acts of kindness reveals deeper trust and character. Reflecting on his work with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, he shares how the deputies he aimed to support ultimately supported him through a personal challenge, bringing back the comforting sense of protection he lost when his older brother died. He closes by encouraging listeners to look for positive "probable cause" everywhere and reaffirming his dedication to standing by law enforcement.
