Discussing the Root of UChicago’s Manosphere with Clifford Ando
Episode Notes
Maroon Podcasts Editor Aubrey Barb sits down with Clifford Ando, the Robert O. Anderson Distinguished Service Professor of Classics, History, and the College, to discuss the widening (and worrying) admissions gap between male and female applicants to the College. We also review current campus news: a recent sexual assault lawsuit filed against the UChicago chapter of Alpha Delta Phi, results from first-year College Council elections, and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry’s new south entrance construction project.
Editor's note: As reported by Vedika Baradwaj, UChicago dropped from sixth to ninth place between the 2026 and 2027 editions of the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges Ranking.

Maroon Podcasts Editor Aubrey Barb sits down with UChicago Democrats Transportation Caucus members Arya Sharma and Sara Baudler to discuss the new UGo Shuttle Ambassadors program, meant to expand ridership and accessibility of our on-campus shuttle system. We also review current campus news: a woman was sexually assaulted at the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity house; UChicago alum Michael Woodford (A.B. ’77) received the 2026 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences; second-year Nikolas Polsinelli appeared on Jeopardy!; and the Promontory Point limestone revetment may be in danger.
Editor’s note: Although this wasn’t mentioned in the recording, the full article about the UGo Shuttle Ambassador Program is by Kaci Sziraki. Also, roughly 75% of the MTR Corporation, which operates Hong Kong’s public transportation system, is owned by the city. The remainder is privately owned.

Gunpoint Robbery, Hyde Park Produce Closes Doors, Bridge Writing Workshop Still On Hiatus
A UChicago affiliate was robbed on campus last Monday morning in front of the William Eckhardt Research Center. A student-led creative writing workshop and civic engagement program for people incarcerated at the Cook County Jail remains on hiatus nearly a year after two former UChicago students settled a lawsuit against the Cook County Sheriff.
Also, the grocery store Hyde Park Produce is closing its doors, and Max Palevsky East reaches its third week with no working water fountain.
