We share the good news of Jesus with surfers, following him together in community and empowering others to do the same. So that every surfer and every surfing community would have opportunity to know and follow Jesus.
Awake During Brain Surgery: Ben Weiland’s Story of Faith, Fear & Arctic Surf | The CS Podcast
“Nobody needs another blog.” That’s what Ben Weiland told his roommate back in 2009. But not long after starting Arctic Surf Blog, he got an email from photographer Chris Burkard. A bedroom blog about cold, weird surf spots found on Google Earth turned into a career that helped put Arctic surfing on the map. Ben went from his uncle’s door and window business to writing for Surfer Magazine with zero experience.
On that first trip to New Zealand he picked up a borrowed camcorder, and years later he was making films like Island X in the Bering Sea, where orcas cruise through the lineup and the nearest hospital can be days away. But the deepest part of his story didn’t happen in the water. One year into marriage, Ben had a seizure and learned he had a brain tumor. Months later, another seizure hit 15 minutes before an Island X screening. He chose surgery and stayed awake through it so doctors could protect his speech. He and his wife Marisa found a peace they couldn’t explain and a depth they wouldn’t trade.
Born to missionary parents in Germany, Ben talks with Mark about following curiosity, stepping out in faith, and making films that leave people with wonder and awe. Ben also shares about returning to the Bering Sea to screen Island X for the local village, teaching kids to surf in freezing water, and his dream of seeing others carry that work forward. For Ben, every risky trip and every step into the unknown is part of trusting the Lord.

The Unexpected Surfer With Andrew Jakus | The Christian Surfers Podcast
In this one, Mark Sawyer-Chu (@thestokelife) sits down with Andrew (@AmityAndrew) from the newly formed Christian Surfers Wisconsin team, as he shares the early story of launching a brand-new surf ministry chapter in the heart of the Great Lakes. What makes this conversation so unique is the setting - surf culture far from the ocean, where Lake Michigan becomes both the playground and the mission field. Andrew unpacks how a simple vision for fellowship, surfing, and outreach has quickly grown into a movement of people responding to what they believe God is building in their region. From an initial vision-casting breakfast hosted at home, to 27 responses of interest and leadership willingness, the momentum has been unmistakable. What began as a handful of conversations has turned into a committed leadership group gathering for meals, prayer, and planning as they prepare to launch their first official CS Wisconsin campout.
Andrew shares:
🌊 How the vision for CS Wisconsin came together through prayer
🌊 Building surf ministry in a non-traditional surf region
🌊 The reality of distance, logistics, and unity across a vast inland region
🌊 The prayer, obedience, and discernment behind starting from the ground up This episode is a powerful reminder that surf mission is not limited by geography - and that God can build community, purpose, and momentum even in the most unexpected places.
Huge thanks to everyone supporting the launch of Christian Surfers Wisconsin and to the broader Christian Surfers movement for continuing to reach surfers with the hope of Jesus around the world.
