Step up your knowledge on caring for patients with substance use disorders (SUD)! This show features addiction medicine experts who are dedicated to bringing you practice changing knowledge about substance use, and substance use disorders. We use expert interviews to demystify common addiction medicine topics, reduce stigma, and inspire listeners to be fierce advocates for all individuals who use substances. […] Kind of in a drug supply that we know, most of the opioids are very short-acting like fentanyl. I think you run a higher risk of probably some side effects potentially, but it's, again, not available. And naltrexone is not like an approved treatment for an opioid overdose, right? Naltrexone is a medication we use for alcohol disorder. In its IM formulation, it's a medication that has some data, although not as strong data as methadone and buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid disorder but it's not something we use to treat opioid overdoses particularly because it just doesn't reach peak as quickly because either an oral or a long-acting im formulation and so it wouldn't work when you need it to work is my understanding at least i think like cap it off to remember to remind folks that you can get the you can get naloxone over the counter now as well right that change happens I don't know when it happens, but I know it happens. […]
