Seahawks Hand Chiefs First Loss of Season & Bears Preview

Welcome to Episode 8 of THE DARK SIDE: a podcast on the Seattle Seahawks! Your Super Bowl champion hosts Derick Hall and Byron Murphy II from the Seahawks’ Dark Side defense join KOMO Sports Director Niko Tamurian to reflect on Seattle’s 4-3 record so far this season. This week it is just Byron and Niko reacting to the Seahawks 20-3 win over the Chiefs and the ending of Kansas City’s undefeated season. Derick talks about how proud he was of the Dark Side Defense for starting the game fast and playing with great effort. He also shares his respect for the Chiefs offense led by future Hall of Famers Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Not to mention respect for Andy Reid. The Dark Side defense limited the Chiefs on Sunday night in a way that had never happened before to a team head coached by Reid. Derick reacts to what exactly that is. Derick also goes into detail on what he was seeing the play where he strip sacked Patrick Mahomes delivering one of the biggest hits of the Seahawks season so far. Derick talks about the WIN acronym and how Seahawks players are focused on “what’s important now.” The mindset has allowed this Seattle team to prepare with the same intensity after both wins and losses. Derick talks about how the team attacked every meeting and workout with the intensity needed to perform to their standard in all three phases of the game. Our hosts then take a moment to reflect on Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s historic start to this season. Also some talk about life after football and how former players like Marshawn Lynch are working side gigs as sports photographers. Derick also talks about getting the opportunity to play against a former Seahawks teammate in Kenneth Walker III. The Dark Side defense has a ton of respect for the Super Bowl LX MVP and Hall shares the pride they took in limiting him to his least productive game of the season so far. Derick talks about how the defense tackled as one team and worked together to bring such an elusive runner to the ground. There are so many Seahawks players to shout out this week. Even before the shoutouts officially began, Nick Emmanwori and Ty Okada got some much-deserved praise for playing great games and teaming up to pressure Patrick Mahomes into an interception. AJ Barner and more get the official shoutout of the week. It was a big win so Derick had a lot of credit to pass around to his teammates this week. Niko and Derick then take a look ahead to next week when they preview the Seahawks upcoming Monday Night Football matchup with the Chicago Bears. Derick talks about his experience playing on Monday night as well as his memories playing against Ben Johnson coached offenses. Ben Johnson was offensive coordinator of the Lions back then and now leads the Bears quarterbacked by Caleb Williams. Derick shares how excited he is for the challenge of playing against the Bears QB. Not to mention Derick recalls Williams winning the Heisman trophy when they both were playing college football in 2022. Derick also talks about the time he earned 2 sacks at Auburn vs Missouri with a young Luther Burden on the roster. Finally, Derick’s pregame suit was featured on the big board at Lumen Field during the game. Derick talks about the pride he takes in his pregame look and why he personally prefers to dress himself instead of working with a stylist. He also shares which of his teammates he thinks have the best personal style. Finally, Niko and Derick bond over their mutual lover of sneakers and talk about some of their favorite pairs. Not to mention, is it more exhausting playing in the Denver altitude? Welcome to Episode 6 of THE DARK SIDE: a podcast on the Seattle Seahawks! Your Super Bowl champion hosts Derick Hall and Byron Murphy II from the Seahawks’ Dark Side defense join KOMO Sports Director Niko Tamurian to reflect on Seattle’s 3-2 record so far this season.
