And I think in a sort of more modern sense, A lot of the vampire mythology, the kind of modern-ish vampire mythology, comes from death and decomposition and times when people didn't really understand what happened to the body after death. There's that misconception that the fingernails continue to grow, where actually it's just the skin around them shrinks, so it looks like they're growing.
