[…] There's no difference between self-consciousness and anxiety. That's why when the scales fall from Adam and Eve's eyes in the garden of paradise, they become aware of their nakedness and that precipitates, that's part of what precipitates the fall. To become self-conscious is to, is to be miserable. It's to descend. And that's a very useful thing to know. And so one of the things you could take away from this talk tonight, if you tend to be a socially anxious person, is that the next time you're anxious, pay more attention to the person you're with. Don't pay less attention to yourself. That doesn't work, because as soon as you start thinking that you should pay less attention to yourself, you're just thinking about yourself, and then you get anxious, but you can really, really increase the amount of attention you're paying to the other person.
