The Nick Oliver Show dives into all things St. Cloud State men’s hockey, hosted by home television and road radio play-by-play voice Jim Erickson.
Each Monday at 6 p.m. following a Husky Hockey series, Erickson sits down with head coach Nick Oliver to break down the weekend’s action, discuss team storylines, and preview what’s ahead.
Mondays after home series feature Oliver alongside one of his assistant coaches, while road-series episodes spotlight two current Husky student-athletes in the second half of the show.
Just like past seasons, fans can stream every episode of The Nick Oliver Show live on the SCSU Men’s Hockey Facebook page and on the Varsity Network app.
Head Coach Nick Oliver and player guests Thor Byfuglien and Jamison Sluys
Jim Erickson welcomes head coach Nick Oliver, junior defenseman Thor Byfuglien, and Western Michigan transfer Jamison Sluys to the third Nick Oliver Show, live from the Green Mill. Oliver looks back on the Huskies’ split at Boston College, a 4-0 loss Thursday and a 5-3 win Saturday, and on a team trip that included a practice at the Bruins’ facility and a Fenway Park tour. Saturday’s win featured goals from Jake Southgate, Darels Uljanskis, Finn McLaughlin, Byfuglien and Nolan Roed, plus 43 saves from Yan Shostak.
Byfuglien and Sluys break down their goal and talk about the defensemen’s scoring, and Sluys explains why he chose St. Cloud State out of the portal. They also compare notes on baseball and on growing up in Roseau and Point Roberts, Washington. Oliver also covers the power play, the injuries to Brock Souch and Hayden Paupanekis, and how he plans to use the off week.
Erickson previews the NCHC opener against Arizona State on Halloween weekend. Puck drop is 7:07 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, and 6:07 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. There is no show next Monday, and the Nick Oliver Show returns in two weeks.

Coach Nick Oliver and player guests Gavyn Thoreson and Jake Southgate
Jim Erickson welcomes head coach Nick Oliver, junior captain Gavyn Thoreson, and Lindenwood transfer and assistant captain Jake Southgate to the second Nick Oliver Show, live from the Green Mill. Oliver reflects on his first career win, a 5-3 victory over Michigan Tech on Saturday after an overtime loss on Friday, and credits the energy in the renovated Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
He and Erickson talk through Thoreson’s two-goal weekend, including a gritty empty-net goal, goals from Hayden Paupanekis, William Ahlrik, Joe Belisle and Thor Byfuglien, John Hirschfeld’s debut, and Brock Souch’s first career goal. They also cover the goaltender interference review in overtime on Friday and the new face-off rules. Oliver also talks about borrowing from his coaching mentors and the new leather-jacket player-of-the-game tradition.
Thoreson and Southgate discuss what it means to wear letters, their chemistry on and off the ice, and the team’s improvement game over game. Southgate talks about growing up on a 10,000-acre family farm in Saskatchewan, where his dad once traded a skid steer for a Zamboni to build a backyard rink. The Huskies now fly to Boston College for a Thursday-Saturday series, with puck drop at 6 p.m. Central both nights and pregame at 5:30 on KNSI and the Varsity Network app. The show returns next Monday.

Head Coach Nick Oliver and player guests Jack Reimann and Finn McLaughlin
Jim Erickson welcomes head coach Nick Oliver, senior captain Jack Reimann, and transfer defenseman Finn McLaughlin to the first Nick Oliver Show of the season, live from the Green Mill. Oliver talks about building a roster with 17 newcomers after being hired in April, and about the 3-2 overtime loss at Bemidji State. The Huskies fell behind 2-0 after a rough first period, with goalie Yan Shostak keeping them in it, then rallied behind a better second and third. McLaughlin recounts his first Huskies point, an assist on Nolan Roed's power-play goal, and why he chose St. Cloud State after transferring from Minnesota. Reimann shares how he helped the new players settle in and talks about his third summer at a Christian hockey camp in Hungary.
Oliver also covers the goalie situation, the new trapezoid and icing rules, and a preview of this weekend's series against Michigan Tech, the first games in the renovated Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Reimann and McLaughlin give their first impressions of the new ice, boards, and lighting. Puck drops Friday at 7:07 and Saturday at 6:07, and the show returns next Monday at 6 p.m.
