[…] They were missed either because they were inadequately worked up or because the appropriate service wasn't involved. It wasn't missed because the residents got a call and they missed it. It was predominantly missed because the ED didn't get the adequate imaging, or once the adequate imaging was done, they didn't consult the appropriate service. Or sometimes these patients didn't get to the ED immediately. They went to some other urgent care clinic and just got inadequately triaged. So there was We felt that maybe this might have been better to publish in the emergency medicine journal, but we ultimately decided for general orthopedic because without orthopedic trauma providers, we as the individuals that have to own the bone really need to know that a lot of these patients get missed and they get missed for a various number of reasons, not just the fact that the orthopedic surgeon doesn't know.
