Österreich ist Violett: Austria's Historic Double & a New Era for the Frauen Bundesliga

Women's Football history has been made in Favoriten! In this episode, The Other Bundesliga (Tom Middler) teams up with Her Football Hub (Drew Vinestock) to break down FK Austria Wien's incredible domestic Double, looking back at their jaw-dropping, dramatic final matchday title win and their historic 4-0 turnaround against SK Brann to book their ticket to the UEFA Women's Champions League league phase for the first time. We map out the four main pillars of the Austrian game: The Violet Miracle: We unpack the tactical shifts and standout performances—including Modesta Uka’s legendary qualifier hat-trick—that propelled Austria Wien past St. Pölten’s long-standing dominance and into Europe's top tier. A League on the Rise: What does Austria Wien's UWCL group-stage quali mean for the commercial growth, TV visibility, and structural future of the Frauen Bundesliga? The Chasing Pack: We scout the rising talent pool waiting in the wings at teams like First Vienna, Sturm Graz, and across the rest of the league. A New Era for the National Team: Can the ÖFB-Frauen take the next major step forward under newly appointed manager Lars Søndergaard? We debate whether the former Denmark boss has the blueprint to successfully integrate domestic talent and push Austria deeper towards major tournament qualification once more. Whether you're a die-hard Violet fan or just catching up on the rapid rise of Austrian women's football, this deep dive episode has everything you need to get to know the full picture in Austria.
