Tokyo E-Prix: How Dennis raced himself into title contention
<p>The Formula E title fight took another curious twist at the Tokyo E-Prix in late July when Jake Dennis took the championship initiative with a pole, a second and a third place for Andretti.</p><br><p>Yet, it could have been oh so much more for the 2023 champion who led the first Tokyo encounter before a last lap powercut derailed what would have been his third win of the season. 24 hours later Dennis had a strong claim for another win written off via a late race red flag when he was in his attack mode and gaining hugely on the leading pair of Nick Cassidy and eventual winner Nyck de Vries.</p><br><p>Two entertaining races are picked apart by Sam Smith and Matt Beer, including a controversial incident between former teammates Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa, as well as a disappointing weekend for Jaguar, who had just a fourth for Mitch Evans and a delayed ninth for da Cost to show for their efforts.</p><br><p>All this and some intriguing driver market news in the latest episode of The Race Formula E podcast.</p><br><p><br></p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast. Shanghai E-Prix: How Di Grassi gave Lola Yamaha a shock first victory
<p>Varying conditions in China brought varied results as Pascal Wehrlein, and incredibly Lucas di Grassi took a win apiece as Formula E hit new heights in random results and formbooks being torn up at Shanghai.</p><br><p>While timetables were amended and the obligatory contentious incidents played out, Wehrlein and Porsche took over at the top of the points standings with a sublime Saturday performance.</p><br><p>24 hours later it was a tale of two races as wet and dry set-up cars turned the race on its own head with Lucas di Grassi and Jean-Eric Vergne proving that experience counts with calculated dry-weather set-ups that came good at the very end of the race.</p><br><p>Dan Ticktum of course features with a bizarre penalty that involved The Race’s very own Sam Smith, who discusses the incident with host Matt Beer.</p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast. Sanya E-Prix: Dennis victorious as title chasers hit trouble
<p>The hot, humid and heady atmosphere of Sanya, on the Chinese island of Hainan was mirrored by some lairy action on the track as Jake Dennis claimed his second win of the season for Andretti.</p><br><p>While Dennis celebrated, the title chasing quartet of Mitch Evans, Oliver Rowland, Pascal Wehrlein and Edoardo Mortara came away with not a point between them as shunts and bizarre fire extinguisher activations accounted for the top four in the points table.</p><br><p>Pepe Marti took an FE career best second place but his CUPRA Kiro teammate blotted his copybook again when he smashed in to the back of Evans’ Jaguar just before a bizarre red flag incident that those two combatants were also involved in.</p><br><p>As well as the red flag query, some of the penalties that were dished out are also unpacked, as is the new 2026-27 calendar that will include new tracks at Zandvoort, Brands Hatch and COTA.</p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast.
