And I was like, it just seems random, but there's actually a single unified vision running through this entire chapter. Did you notice when I was reading it how often Solomon repeated the phrase better than? The day of death is better than the day of birth. The day of sorrow is better than the day of laughter. The rebuke of the wise is better than the praise or literally the songs of fools. Altogether, Solomon uses that phrase better than 11 times in this chapter and almost every comparison that he gives to it sounds completely backwards. […]
