[…] That verb is didaskos, from which we get our English word didactic, which is a word used to describe instruction or teaching. But the word translated teach in verse 19, as in teach all nations, is the word used for a disciple. Only in 1611 English, disciple was never used as a verb, only a noun. So the King James translators followed the Tyndale translation and rendered it teach. But in modern English, we do use disciple as a verb. And that's why modern translations render it, go therefore and make disciples of all nations. The word implies more than just a transfer of information. It implies discipling. […]
