[…] Symptoms affect multiple systems in the body causing fever, joint pain, a rash, specifically a rash called erythema marginatum, shortness of breath, chorea and subcutaneous nodules on the skin. Rheumatic fever causes a migratory arthritis affecting the large joints. It causes hot, swollen and painful joints. Different joints become inflamed and improve at different times, which is why it's called a migratory arthritis. This gives the appearance that the arthritis is moving from one joint to the next. Inflammation in the heart causing pericarditis, myocarditis and endocarditis can lead to symptoms and features of tachycardia or a raised heart rate, murmurs on auscultation due to valvular heart disease typically affecting the mitral valve, a pericardial rub on auscultation and heart failure.
