[…] And so this has long been a theoretical question. And moreover, not only the question of what almost like physically or constitutes a human being, but also what does it mean to possess humanity. That is, what does it mean to be recognized as a living being whose life is like beyond question? To be a human means that you possess humanity. And while he's not going to sit here and actually define this, he offers another way to emphasize its importance, the question of humanity. And he says that, well, although we might not be so clear or so sure about what this humanity really entails how it is bestowed upon us what does it mean what ethical obligations do you owe people by virtue of them being human he says i can't answer all those questions nor can i really like prove that that exists but i can show you that dehumanization exists And so that alone is caused to believe that there's something radical about humanity.
