[…] A solar developer in western Maine has been fined more than $200,000 for for polluting nearby waterways during construction. State environmental regulators say Freiburg Solar failed to control erosion, which caused loose soil to spill into wetlands and streams back in 2022. The company has agreed to pay the penalties and has since restored the site and improved stormwater controls. The federal government has given Maine approval to cover traditional indigenous health practices under MaineCare. Lisa Sackabason, the co-CEO of Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness, says the approval means the nonprofit will be reimbursed for practices such as smudging, talking circles, and sweat lodge ceremonies.
