[…] So I said, oh. Maybe impressment would be a good thing for me to work on for this conference paper. And so I then started reading about trying to find all the stories about impressment. And for your listeners, impressment is this very, very aggressive and hostile practice that the Royal Navy had used. In the 18th century of just basically legalized kidnapping, if there were, you know, to fill out their ship's crew, if they had four or five or six people that were had deserted once they pulled into port, they just grabbed five or six people to fill their to fill the holes in the crew. And whether or not those were mariners or not or had any kind of sea training didn't really much matter. […]
