How we survived 20 years without a car in NY

Episode 2; Part 1 Living in New York City for two decades without owning a car may seem like a daunting task, but it is a challenge that we have managed to conquer. In this episode, we discuss how we have survived in the city without a vehicle and the various alternatives we have used to get around. When we first moved to New York City, we considered buying a car. However, after considering the cost of owning a car, including car insurance and maintenance expenses, we realized that it was not a practical option. The cost of owning a car in the city can be astronomical, and the added stress of finding parking and dealing with traffic makes it even more challenging. As a result, we decided to explore alternative transportation options. One of the most cost-effective and efficient ways to get around the city is by using public transportation. The subway system in New York City is an excellent mode of transportation that can take you almost anywhere you need to go. With a monthly pass, the cost of using the subway is significantly lower than owning a car, and it is much faster and more reliable than driving in the city. In addition to the subway, other alternative transportation options include biking and walking. New York City is a very walkable and bike-friendly city, and there are many bike lanes and pedestrian paths available. Biking and walking are great ways to explore the city and get some exercise while avoiding the stress of driving. We also explore car-sharing services like Zipcar, which provide an alternative to car ownership. Car-sharing services allow you to rent a car for a few hours or a few days without the hassle of owning one. This is a great option for people who only need a car occasionally and do not want to deal with the high costs associated with owning a vehicle. Throughout the episode, we highlight the environmental benefits of not owning a car. Cars are a significant source of air pollution, and they contribute to climate change. Living a car-free lifestyle in a city like New York is one way to reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. We also share our experience with owning a Subaru in the city. Subaru is a great car brand that is known for its durability and reliability. Our Subaru has served us well over the years, but owning a car in the city can be challenging. Finding parking can be a nightmare, and navigating through the city's traffic can be stressful. In conclusion, surviving in New York City without a car is possible, and it can even be a more enjoyable and sustainable way of living. We have explored various alternative transportation options and have found that public transportation, biking, walking, and car-sharing services are all great options for getting around the city. We hope that this episode will inspire others to consider living a car-free lifestyle and explore the many benefits it has to offer. We also discuss the challenges of living in New York City without a car. While it is certainly possible, it requires a certain level of flexibility and adaptability. For example, when using public transportation, it is important to be aware of the schedules and plan accordingly. Biking and walking in the city can also be challenging, especially during rush hour when the streets are crowded. Another challenge of living in New York City without a car is the cost of transportation. While public transportation is relatively inexpensive, it can add up over time. Biking and walking are certainly cheaper, but they require more physical effort and can be time-consuming. We also discuss the benefits of not owning a car in the city. One of the biggest benefits is the freedom it provides. Without a car, we are not tied down to a specific location, and we are free to explore the city on foot, bike, or public transportation. This has allowed us to discover many ontinueAditionally, they will talk about the various options they explored to find affordable transportation, including using public transportation like the subway and buses, using ride-sharing services, and even renting a car when necessary. Throughout the episode, they will share their personal stories and experiences of living car-free in New York, highlighting the challenges they faced and the lessons they learned. They will also touch on the environmental benefits of not owning a car and the impact it has had on their lives. In conclusion, this episode offers a unique perspective on living in New York City without a car and provides valuable insights and tips for anyone looking to do the same.
