But there's nothing bewildering about the explosion of baby farming in that era. Desperate people will make desperate choices and a mother unable to feed her child or herself backed into an impossible corner. You can see how these women wanted to believe the warm and cheerful ads that ran in newspapers because baby farmers were so careful to present themselves as the most loving and the best solution to a most heartbreaking problem.
