Lääkekehityksen lokikirjat. Jakso 8: Tapaus verenohennuslääkkeet – kannattiko lääkekehitys?
Kuusikymmentä vuotta. Niin kauan kesti, ennen kun alkoi näyttää, että verenohennukseen saataisiin varfariinin rinnalle tai peräti tilalle uusi lääkevaihtoehto. Mutta kuten lääkekehityksessä usein, matkassa oli mutkia. Tänä päivänä varfariinia eli Marevania käytetään yhä harvakseltaan, mutta valtaosalla potilaista käytössä ovat suun kautta otettavat verenohennuslääkkeet, oraaliset antikoagulantit.
