How Builders Navigate Bullies (Inner & Outer Peace) 🧭|☮️
Peace takes accountability, effort, and healing on all sides. Enabling bad behavior just to win something, is war. In a world filled with so much corruption and hate, it's a refreshing challenge to be different; to love and honor your values, your community, and yourself. 🌐|💖
We're on episode 108 (of 111)! As always, life is perfectly imperfect, with many things to celebrate + opportunities to grow and live/learn/lead from. 🎊
However, every now & then on UGT there are episodes with topics that deserve undivided attention. Given the current state of the world at large, episode 108 will shine a light on / revisit bullying -- the cause of a tremendous amount of domestic/global destruction & conflict, online & offline. 🌌 (💡)🔑
As individuals + collectively, how do we navigate this + heal for the future?
If you are a builder (a person who is genuine, kind, compassionate, accountable, disciplined, ambitious, authentic, etc.) who has encountered bullies (someone who intentionally harms other people, places, spaces) at any point along your journey -- past, present, or to be prepared if it happens in the future -- it's important to be conscious of:
How bullies become bullies (+ why having compassion for them matters)
Why bullies target certain people/places/spaces (+ how it affirms/confirms the target's value/importance to them)
What to do about enablers (+ understanding what they exist for)
How to forgive them & heal yourself (+ potentially others) so the cycle ends with you
This is an experience I have lived through + moved past along my own journey as a black/brown woman navigating environments, both personally & professionally, that place more value on or provide better treatment to people who enable corruption or are not from marginalized groups. However, bullying (and the lasting effects) can happen to almost anyone. Fortunately, bullying doesn’t happen in all spaces – and where it does happen, you can take action + remove yourself from it.
Today's episode features two talks with practical + spiritual tips: one from project manager Dorothy Walker, and the other from program director Gabrielle Rifkind -- both about healing + conflict resolution/prevention, how we can all treat each other better, build toward peace, live authentically + thrive. ☯ (more at: www.ted.com (https://www.ted.com/) (www.simonsinek.com))
