I would just like to take this time out to say THANK YOU, thank you to everyone who took the time out to have a listen, took the time out to check in on their friends and family members took the time out to send not only the guest but also myself feedback and kind messages you honestly have no idea how much that means! The start of 2020, was hands down one of the hardest starts to a year for my struggle with my mental health, was a massive challenge but a challenge I am glad I not only had to face but one that I was able to bounce back from!
I hope that listening to these episodes have helped you in some way or another in finding it normal to talk about your feelings and some of the challenges you are or have faced throughout your life. On this weeks episode, I sat down and spoke to the founder of SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY Mitch McPherson! SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY works to promote positive mental health and prevent suicide by normalising conversations about mental health and encouraging people to seek help when they need it. Mitch has played a major role around educating on only Tasmania’s but several others around the country of the importance of checking in on not only your mates but most importantly yourself.
Mitch along with his staff at SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY have held over 600 talks around mental health and suicide prevention within schools, sporting clubs and business big or small around the country! As Mitch explains throughout our chat SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY wasn’t an organisation he wishes he ever had to make but at the same time is extremely proud of how far it has come!
Mitch and I spoke about the unfortunate passing of his brother, finding his purpose in life, the ups and downs that come with creating a charity and so much more! I hope you enjoy listing to Mitches amazing story as much as I did! If you’d like to hear a little more about Mitches story and how the passing of his brother impacted not only his life but those around him make sure you go and grab yourself a copy of his book ‘ Behind the smile. Rowan Heggie
" I would love the opportunity to share my story because I think it would be refreshing as I come across to everyone as a very happy go lucky fella who is always laughing. So it may SHOCK some to learn about my battles."
On this weeks episode, I sat down with Rowan Heggie! Rowan reached out to me a few months ago about how over the years he has remained 'UNANNOUNCED' about the mental as physical challenges he faced whilst serving full time within the Australian Army. I was touched by how vulnerable Rowan was willing to let himself be by not only messaging me but also following through to share his amazing story. Rowan and I touched on it all from his childhood dealing with Attention deficit disorder (ADD), sporting career along with the challenges of having a young family whilst balancing work, life and his mental health I hope you enjoy listing to Rowans, amazing story as much as I did.
