And then when Julia's uncle or whoever it is that comes, who's one of the directors of the railway company, comes and says, you must come into the hotel. You can't stay out here. It's not nice for you. Come in, I'll get you a room, a private room. And then Max overrides him and gets those three rooms, one for Miss Fellows and two for them. they're then in a position to look down on the crowd, which literalises the attitude that they had to begin with, because they look down on all the other people. And they can see them as both frightening, because particularly Julia, I think it is, who's frightened of the idea of them making their way into the hotel, like in a revolution or something. […]
