I'm Marj Kupps, and this podcast explores womanhood, growth, ambition, wellness, and the uncomfortable process of becoming who you're meant to be. Each week, we dive into conversations that go beyond a 60-second reel, from friendships, family, and relationships to success, identity, money, purpose, and the pressure to have it all figured out.
Think of this as a cup of tea with a friend and an invitation to question what you've been taught, what you've outgrown, and who you're becoming.
Growth isn't always comfortable, and the most important conversations often aren't either.
If you want to be successful, LIVE AS IF YOUR PARENTS ARE DEAD
In today’s car pod, I’m talking about people-pleasing, the fear of disappointing your family, and learning to live life on your own terms. We explore the uncomfortable reality that our parents are human beings figuring life out for the first time, too and that loving and respecting the people who raised us doesn’t mean we have to let their expectations dictate our lives.
Because sometimes, growing into yourself means making choices other people don’t understand. And sometimes, you have to be willing to disappoint people to stop disappointing yourself.
Let’s talk about it. ☕

Can You Still Have Sleepovers, Single Friends & Opposite-Sex Friends When Married?
In this episode, my husband and I sit down for an honest conversation about friendship, marriage, boundaries, and what happens when two people don’t see eye to eye on what is appropriate in a relationship.
We discuss whether married people should have friends of the opposite sex, whether it’s okay to maintain close friendships with single people when you’re married, and whether you should still be having sleepovers at your friends’ houses after getting married. We also get into what happens when you don’t like your partner’s friends, whether your spouse should have a say in who you’re friends with, and how to balance individuality with commitment.
We don’t agree on everything, and that’s exactly what makes this conversation interesting. 😂
In this episode, we discuss:
What happens when you don’t like your partner’s friends
Having friends of the opposite sex when you’re married
Whether married people should have single friends
Sleepovers with friends after marriage
Boundaries, trust, and respect in relationships
How much should marriage change your friendships?
Now we want to hear from you: Do you think your partner’s friends can be a red flag? And should your spouse have a say in the friendships you maintain?
Drop your thoughts in the comments. We want to hear both sides of this conversation!

Things we thought we’d have figured out by 27
At 27, we thought certain things would look very different.
We thought we’d be further along in our careers, own property, have children, and be in a completely different place financially.
In this episode, Kudz and I have an honest conversation about the lives we imagined for ourselves, the expectations we put on our twenties, and what it feels like when reality doesn’t quite match the picture in your head.
From careers and money to buying a home and starting a family, we talk about where we are, where we hoped we’d be, and learning to navigate the space in between.
If you’ve ever looked at your life and wondered, “Is this where I’m supposed to be by now?” this conversation is for you.
Welcome to Uncomfortable on Purpose ; conversations about growth, and becoming.
Let’s talk about it: What did you think your life would look like by 27?

What It Really Feels Like to Build the Life You Asked For
It’s been a while, friend.
In this episode, I’m catching you up on what’s been happening in my life and behind the scenes of my journey as a creator.
The exciting opportunities, the doubts, the comparison, the vulnerability, and the parts of growth that nobody really talks about.
I’ve been learning that sometimes when you ask for a bigger life, you’re first given the lessons that prepare you to carry it.
So if you’re in a season of becoming too, this one is for you. 🤍

5 Things I’ve Completely Changed My Mind About
Some of the beliefs I held most strongly a few years ago… I don’t believe anymore.
In this episode, I’m sharing five things I’ve completely changed my mind about, from what confidence looks like as a Black woman, to friendships, family relationships, my accounting journey, and the need to be well-liked.
We talk about how my perspective on natural hair has evolved, why I no longer measure my worth by the number of friendships I have, how I’ve learned to approach difficult family relationships with more grace than retaliation, and why I’m finally grateful for the accounting career I once saw as a detour.
I also share one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a creator: being authentic and living with integrity doesn’t guarantee that everyone will like you, and that’s okay.
If you’ve ever looked back and realized you’ve outgrown an opinion you once defended, this conversation is for you.

Money, Self-Worth & The Fear of Charging More
Why does asking for more money feel so personal?
In this episode, I’m unpacking the internal struggle of charging higher for my work and the money beliefs I didn’t realise I was carrying. From negotiating with brands to questioning my own worth, I’ve started to see that pricing isn’t just a business decision—it’s often a reflection of the stories we believe about ourselves.
We explore where our beliefs about money come from, how family, culture and past experiences shape the way we value ourselves, and why entrepreneurship has a way of exposing every insecurity we thought we’d hidden. This isn’t an episode about getting rich. It’s about learning to separate your worth from your price and giving yourself permission to take up space, ask for what your work deserves, and build a healthier relationship with money.
If you’ve ever apologised for your prices, felt guilty for wanting more, or wondered whether you’re “worth it,” this conversation is for you.

What You Didn’t Know About Me | Q&A
This week’s episode is a little different.
Instead of diving into a specific topic, I’m letting you get to know me a little better. I asked my husband to come up with a list of questions, and I answered them without knowing what was coming.
It feels less like an interview and more like sitting down for coffee with a friend.
If you’ve been listening for a while and have wondered who I am outside of the advice, wellness conversations, and self-development, this episode is for you.
I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little better. 🤍

We’ve Forgotten How Long Things Take | Trusting the Process When Success Feels Slow
What happens when you’ve done everything “right” but success is taking longer than you expected?
In this episode of Uncomfortable on Purpose, I’m talking about something I’ve been wrestling with lately: delayed gratification, patience, and learning to trust the process when the results aren’t arriving on your timeline.
We live in a world of instant everything—instant communication, instant entertainment, instant answers—so it’s no surprise that many of us expect our biggest goals to happen just as quickly. But what if meaningful things simply take time?
I share personal stories from my own journey as a content creator and entrepreneur, including a viral TikTok experience that taught me a powerful lesson about getting what you want before you’re ready for it. We also explore why comparison distorts our perception of success, why progress is rarely linear, and how to keep going when the evidence that you’re moving forward comes and goes.
If you’ve ever felt behind in life, frustrated by slow progress, or wondered whether your hard work is paying off, this conversation is for you.
In this episode:
• Why success often takes longer than we expect
• The hidden purpose of the process
• What happens when opportunity arrives before you’re ready
• How comparison can distort your timeline
• Why progress isn’t always visible in the moment
• Learning to trust the journey, even when it feels slow
Remember: the process isn’t just building the dream—it may be building the dreamer, too.

The Problem With “I’ll Be Happy When…”
In this episode, we explore a question that many ambitious people quietly wrestle with: Will anything ever feel like enough?
From career goals and financial milestones to relationships, content creation, and personal growth, it’s easy to believe that happiness is waiting on the other side of the next achievement. But what happens when you finally get the thing you’ve been working towards and discover that the feeling doesn’t last as long as you expected?
Joined by my husband, we unpack the experience of constantly moving the finish line, the unexpected emptiness that can follow success, and the tension between wanting more and appreciating what already exists. We talk about ambition, achievement, fulfillment, gratitude, and what it means to enjoy the journey while still pursuing bigger dreams.
If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “I’ll be happy when…” this conversation is for you.

Why We Love To See People Fall
In this episode, we’re unpacking the internet’s fascination with public mistakes, online backlash, and why it often feels easier to criticize than to extend grace.
From cancel culture and call-out videos to creator burnout and the rise of curated content, we explore how social media has changed the way we share, connect, and show up online.
I also reflect on my own relationship with the internet, how my boundaries have evolved over time, and why so many creators are choosing to share less than they once did.
This is a conversation about judgment, empathy, human nature, and the hidden cost of living your life in public.
So pour yourself a cup of tea and join me for an honest conversation about why the internet feels different now, and what that might reveal about all of us.

A Pause Before the Next Chapter
Season 1 is officially wrapped.
Six episodes in, and I’ve learned a lot. About this podcast, about showing up, and about what I want this to become.
I’m taking a short break to level things up behind the scenes before returning for Season 2.
Better, clearer, and more aligned.

Submission: Cultural, Biblical… or Misused?
Submission.
A word that makes some women uncomfortable… and some men very comfortable.
In this episode, I unpack a cultural practice that sparked a deeper question in me:
How much of what we call “submission” is really about God, and how much of it is just culture, tradition, or even control?
We’re getting into:
- The uncomfortable tension between cultural expectations and personal conviction
- How submission has been misused—and why that matters
- What the Bible actually says
- Why submission might look very different from what you’ve been told
This is an honest, thought-provoking conversation—not a rulebook.

ASK ME ANYTHING, DECK OF CARDS EDITION
In this Ask Me Anything: Deck of Cards Edition, I used random cards as prompts and let the conversation go wherever it wanted. From marriage and PDA to career changes, career pressure, and the fear of disappointing your parents.
It’s honest, a little all over the place, and very real. No script, no plan — just me answering whatever comes up.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, unmotivated, or unsure about where you’re going… this one will feel like a chat with a friend who’s figuring it out too.

Girlhood After Marriage: Is Your Husband Your Only Friend?
In this episode I unpack the subtle “promotion” of romantic relationships over all others. Why do we celebrate love… but quietly downgrade friendship?”
I was told growing up that my husband should be my best friend… my only friend. And for a while, I believed that. But I don’t think that advice works for everyone, and I want to talk about why.
And if you’ve ever felt left behind by a married friend… this conversation is for you too.

Having Kids: Love, Fear, or Expectation?
Why do we really have children?
In this episode, I unpack the advice many of us grew up hearing; that you should have kids so you won’t be lonely, or that having children will strengthen your marriage.
But are those reasons rooted in love… or fear?
I reflect on a recent conversation with my parents, question traditional beliefs about motherhood, and explore a perspective that stopped me in my tracks:
If a child could choose their parents… would they choose you right now?
This is an uncomfortable, honest conversation about timing, intention, and the kind of life we’re building before bringing someone else into it.

I Grew Up With Chaperoned Dating
In this episode, I reflect on growing up in a culture where dating without chaperones wasn't an option.
We're talking courtship, structure, boundaries, and how those systems compare to modern dating today.
Was it restorative? Protective? Both?
As dating culture continues to evolve, it's worth asking: what did we gain, and what did we lose?
