Antarctica. It's mysterious to many but familiar to polar pioneer Robert Swan. With the "Undaunted: South Pole 2023" expedition, Robert seeks to complete his long-time goal of crossing the Antarctic landmass on foot while advocating for sustainability and protecting the frozen continent. This podcast explores the experience of Antarctica ("It wants to kill you," Robert says) and considers practical and positive approaches on the journey toward sustainability. Along the way, you'll meet adventurers and experts -- and expert adventurers. NTT DATA is an expedition sponsor.
7. Perspectives From the Polar Plateau: The Undaunted Audio Reports
Robert Swan and company successfully completed the Undaunted: South Pole 2023 expedition on January 10, achieving Robert's long-time goal of walking across the Antarctic landmass. Each evening on the 16-day journey, Robert or his son, Barney, would send a report by satellite phone. This episode compiles those brief audio reports to give listeners a look at life on the march on the Antarctic Plateau.

6. A Business Perspective: The Journey Toward Sustainability
In pursuing his now-completed walk across the Antarctic landmass, Robert Swan has advocated for the preservation of Antarctica and promoted sustainability. In this episode, we'll explore a business-oriented viewpoint about the journey to sustainability, including the dual importance of actions to mitigate climate change and innovations that can enable sustainable economic progress. How about batteries you can compost at the end of their useful life? Robots that efficiently plant carbon-absorbing seagrass? And computing chips that use light instead of electricity to process information? These innovations being developed within NTT Group are among many promising developments led by businesses around the world. The challenges are real and become more urgent each day. Even so, there are solid grounds for hope.

1. An Explorer's Perspective: Robert Swan Walks to the South and North Poles
Welcome to Undaunted, with Robert Swan and NTT DATA. In the 1980s, Robert became the first person to walk to the South and North poles. More recently, he's tried twice to finish his roughly 1,500-mile walk across the entire Antarctic landmass, but devastating injuries stopped him both times. He intends to complete the 97 remaining miles in an expedition he calls "Undaunted: South Pole 2023."
In Episode 1, we learn about Robert's original treks to the South and North poles, the physical challenges, excruciating conditions, ultimate success ... and the emptiness that sometimes comes after achieving a momentous goal. We also hear about what came next and how Jacques Cousteau gave Robert a 50-year mission to preserve Antarctica as an independent land reserved for science and peace. In pursuit of this mission, Robert advocates for clean energy as well as sustainable business practices and personal lifestyles.
In future episodes, we'll hear more about Robert's expeditions and his mission to save Antarctica by changing the world. We'll also learn how organizations and individuals can begin their own journeys toward sustainability.
