Pride Month 2021
It's June which can mean only one thing, Pride Month! Our host Hannah Phillips (https://www.hannahphillipsreal.com/) talks about what it is and the events that lead up to it such as the Stonewall Riots, Lesbian's and Gay's Support the Miners (LGSM) (http://lgsm.org/) best depicted in Pride Movie 2014 (https://amzn.to/3whXNUI) with three special guests: Reading Pride (https://www.readingpride.co.uk)'s CEO, Martin Cooper; Chair of Oxford Pride (https://www.oxford-pride.org.uk), Zayna Ratty; and Founder/Director of Weston-super-Mare Pride (https://www.wsmpride.com) and Inclusions Officer at the UK Pride Organisers Network (https://ukpon.lgbt), Nigel Briers.
Whilst June is a month of celebration, it is also a time to reflect on all the lives lost through to intolerance and hate such as bombing of the Admiral Duncan in 1999, the mass-shooting at Orlando Pulse Nightclub (https://onepulsefoundation.org) in 2016 and much more close to home remembering Joe, James and David who we lost last year in Forbury Gardens, this section between 39m and 53m comes with a trigger warning.
Finally Nigel has some news about some big changes at the UK Pride Organisers Network.
We thank Reading International Solidarity Centre (https://risc.org.uk/) for allowing us to use their room to record this episode.
