Undivided is a conversation between husband and wife, cofounders, homeschool parents (send help!) and two people still choosing each other through every season of life.
This podcast is a testament to God’s faithfulness.
A love letter to our children.
A story worth sharing.
We talk about marriage, grief, leadership, faith, healing, family, and the reality of building a life together while the world watches.
This space is intentionally raw and psychologically safe.
Some episodes will make you laugh.
Some will hit a little too close to home.
Whichever way it goes, we vow to always say the quiet part out loud (we shook on it).
We built this for the people trying to love well, lead well, heal honestly, and stay undivided in a world constantly pulling people apart.
In this episide, we're getting honest about raising three very different kids in a world that won't love them the way we do. They share the phone call from a high school football game that no parent is ready for, why they teach decision-making over preparedness, the talk every Black parent has to have about getting pulled over, and what "Train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6) really asks of parents. It's about knowing where the line sits between building awareness and passing down fear, and trusting God with the parts we can't control.

No Fake ID's: Your Spouse Married You - Then Met Every Version of You
Who were you told you had to be and who are you allowed to become? We’re kicking off Season 2 of Undivided with a conversation about the identities we carry into marriage. The strong one. Maybe It Was Love at First Sight
Before there was a marriage, there was a list.A list of what we wanted. What mattered. What we were willing to wait for. And maybe, in some ways, what we were praying and believing was possible before we ever found it in each other.Ten years later, we get to look back and ask: Did we get what we asked for?In this anniversary episode of Undivided, we’re revisiting the beginning — the qualities we were looking for in a partner, the things that made us recognize something different in each other, and what a decade of marriage has taught us about choosing well.We talk about why we still believe in making the list, why clarity matters before chemistry enters the room, and how some of the things we thought we wanted have taken on completely different meaning after ten years of actually doing life together.Because marriage has given us beautiful moments, painful seasons, growth we never could have anticipated, and versions of each other we hadn’t even met yet when we said “I do.”And somehow, after all of it, we’d still choose each other.Ten years since the universe said yes — and if we had to do it all over again, we would.

The Merge: When Two Become MANY
You don’t just marry a person. You marry traditions. Family dynamics. Expectations. Holidays. Communication styles. Unspoken rules. And sometimes, a whole lot of people with opinions about how your marriage should work.In this episode of Undivided, we’re talking about what it really means for two people to become one when they come from two very different family systems. We unpack what it looked like to learn how to live together, navigate differences between our families, create boundaries without creating unnecessary division, and decide which traditions and expectations we wanted to carry into the family we were building — and which ones needed to stop with us.Because honoring where you come from doesn’t mean allowing your family of origin to have unlimited access to the marriage you’re creating. At some point, every couple has to answer the question:Who are we going to be now?Marriage may begin with two people, but the merge is much bigger than that. And learning how to protect your “us” while still loving your “them” might be one of the most important skills a couple can develop.

Trauma Doesn't Get to Run Our Marriage
We all bring a childhood into our marriage. The things we learned about love. The things we learned about conflict. The ways we learned to survive, stay safe, get attention, avoid rejection, or keep the peace. And sometimes, without realizing it, we ask our spouse to live with wounds they didn’t create. In this episode of Undivided, we’re having the necessary conversations about childhood trauma and the ways our past can quietly show up in our marriage — in our communication, our triggers, our expectations, our conflict, and even the way we give and receive love.We talk about learning each other’s stories, recognizing when an old wound is responding to a present-day situation, and taking responsibility for healing without using trauma as an excuse for harmful behavior.Because understanding why you respond the way you do matters. But eventually, healing requires another question:What are you going to do with what you now know?Your trauma deserves compassion. Your story deserves understanding. But trauma doesn’t get to run your marriage.

Coparenting: Pass or Smash?
Everybody says, “Put the kids first.” But what does that actually look like when there’s history, hurt, new relationships, different households, and very real disagreements involved? In this episode of Undivided, we’re talking about coparenting — the boundaries that protect everyone involved, the communication that keeps children out of adult conflict, and the maturity it takes to work together even when you don’t always agree.Successful coparenting doesn’t require two people to be best friends. It requires clarity. Consistency. Respect. And a shared understanding that the children should never have to carry the weight of what happened between the adults. We’re getting into why loving your children well means checking your ego at the door.Whether you’re co-parenting, married in a blended family, dating someone with children, or simply trying to understand what healthy family dynamics can look like, this conversation is for you.The relationship may have changed, but the responsibility to the children didn’t.

Survivor's Remorse: The Emotional Cost of Doing Business with Family
Don’t Hire Your Family… Until You Hear This
Mixing family and business sounds beautiful until the roles get blurry, expectations go unspoken, and decisions at work begin following you home.
In this episode, we’re talking honestly about what it takes to build with the people you love. We unpack the tension between loyalty and leadership, the pressure to protect relationships while still holding people accountable, and the boundaries we’ve had to learn, sometimes the hard way.
Because love doesn’t automatically make working together easy.
And sharing a last name doesn’t guarantee shared vision, communication, or capacity.
After ten years of marriage and ten years in business, we’ve learned that building something meaningful with family requires more than trust. It requires clarity, honest conversations, defined roles, and the courage to choose what protects both the mission and the relationship.
If you’ve ever hired family, built a business with your spouse, or struggled to separate what happens at work from what happens at home, this conversation is for you.

In All of Your Getting: The Key to Healthy Conflict
The goal of conflict isn’t to win, prove your point, or even agree, but to understand each other. Understanding is a love language.
In this episode, we’re talking about how we navigate conflict in our marriage: saying the hard things, asking better questions, and fighting for understanding instead of fighting to be right.
Portia also shares how being truly known by RJ taught her how to be softer, not because he asked her to shrink, but because feeling seen and understood made her feel safe enough to drop her walls.
Scripture says, “In all your getting, get understanding.” We’ve learned that applies to marriage more than in any other relationship. Because most times, resolution isn’t getting your spouse to see things your way.
It’s walking away knowing them better than you did before.

You Are Not Broken: Grieving Together, Apart
If you’ve ever wondered why grief made you feel distant from the person you love most, this episode is for you.
Early in our marriage, we experienced multiple miscarriages. We were grieving the same losses, but we weren’t always grieving them the same way.
Then years later, grief came for us again when we lost the most important men in our lives, 2 weeks apart.
This conversation is probably our most vulnerable one of the season. We talk about miscarriage, what grief did to each of us, the ways we misunderstood each other, and the pressure we sometimes put on our spouse to grieve the way we do.
If you are grieving a child, a parent, a dream, or a version of life you thought you would have, we hope this episode feels like a conversation with friends who won’t rush you through it.
There is no perfect way to grieve.
There is only the invitation to keep finding your way back to each other.

Undivided: On Our Own Terms
Ten years of marriage. Ten years of building businesses together. And a story we have protected for nearly all of it.
In the premiere episode of Undivided, we sit down to answer the question we have been asked most since announcing the podcast: Why now?
For the last decade, we have been intentionally private. We built our marriage, raised our family, navigated ministry, and grew our businesses away from the noise and opinions of the public. That privacy gave us room to become who God was calling us to be—individually and together.
But now, we believe He is calling us to build in public.
Not to perform.
Not to present ourselves as a “power couple.”
And definitely not because we have everything figured out.
We are opening the doors because someone needs to see that healthy Black love exists. That faith and marriage can coexist with purpose, ambition, disagreement, growth, and change. And that two people can carry distinct callings without becoming divided.
In this episode, we talk about:
How privacy has protected our formation as a couple—and why this season requires something different
“A house divided cannot stand" — Portia's decision to step away from church leadership
Why RJ believes separate callings do not make a marriage divided
What it means to remain connected while becoming more fully yourself
And why marriage, at its best, should return both people to their highest and most whole selves
This is Season 1 of Undivided—a marriage podcast that is not another reality TV show.
No performance. No manufactured perfection. NO CUTS, ever. Just two people who have spent ten years choosing God, choosing growth, and continuing to choose one another.
We are finally ready to tell the truth about what it has taken.
