About Unfolding: Audio Letters from the Middle of Becoming
Unfolding is a podcast for women in midlife who want to understand themselves and the people they love better using Human Design.
If you’ve been the peacekeeper in your family? Do you say yes in the moment, only to regret your decision later? There is a reason behind both of these, and it has nothing to do with something being wrong with you.
On the podcast, I share stories from my own life and from women who share about their own patterns, and the families we’re trying to understand. You don’t need to know your Human Design chart to follow along.
When I asked twenty people what changed once they understood even one part of their Human Design, they all said some version of the same thing: “There is nothing wrong with me.” The other thing I hear again and again: “It gave me permission to just be me.”
I’m Erica Voell, a Human Design guide for women in midlife. Before that, I was a children’s librarian for nineteen years.

You’re frustrated when a family member always gives you unsolicited advice. You feel like your parenting skills are lacking. You wonder why your body doesn’t fit the schedules set by society. And the way you were taught to make decisions might not fit your body, so expecting your kid or partner to decide the same way isn’t how they work.
This is the first episode in a season on relationships and Human Design. Erica walks through the three areas of the chart she starts with when she looks at relationships: type, decision-making, and centers. Clients get why they feel different, and they start to understand their partners and kids.
In this episode
The parenting advice that never worked with her daughter
A client who had an aha with one piece of information from her daughter’s chart
What shifted when Erica looked at her sister’s and mom’s designs, and why they never knew
Type: why your energy, or someone in your family’s, doesn’t fit the 9 to 5 schedule that work and school were built around
Decision-making: how not everyone is meant to make quick decisions, and how her daughter learning to sleep on her decisions saved so much money
Centers: a client’s session on how her partner and kid affect her
What the season covers, and what it doesn’t

You Don’t Have to Hide Your Magic
You get the chills, or a nudge you can’t explain, and you talk yourself out of it before it has a chance to land.
You were taught to be rational, so you learned to rationalize it.
In this episode, I share my first experience with the spiritual world outside of church, and it started with my cats.
Then came the dreams, the perfume, and the footsteps in the attic, and I started to embrace a side of myself that I had been afraid of for years.
I also share what happened when I first heard “gather the women” and tried to make sense of what it meant.
And how in the last year or so, I’ve leaned so far into the practical that I started to feel I wasn’t woo enough, until a nudge told me to pay attention.
I close with an invitation to notice why your intuition may be feeling more online in the forty days from the end of September to the early part of November.

Fine Is a Four-Letter Word - A Conversation with Katie Farinas
You checked all the boxes. Got the degrees, the marriage, the house, the career. Everything looked exactly as it should. So why did something still feel missing?
In this episode, Erica talks with Katie Farinas, former labor and delivery nurse turned yoga teacher and life coach, about what happens when your body finally stops letting you ignore what you've been pushing down.
They dig into the quiet grief of midlife that doesn't have a name, what dharma actually means and why "purpose" gets so tangled, and how to reconnect with something greater than yourself when the religion you grew up with never quite fit.
Katie also shares her own episode on exactly that: The G Word: How to Reconnect with God in Midlife (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/e176-the-g-word-in-midlife-reconnecting-with-god/id1698844006?i=1000792002817).
