About Unified Theistic Naturalism (UTN)

Unified Theistic Naturalism is a podcast for those who sense that something fundamental has been missing from humanity’s spiritual, psychological, and scientific conversations. Rather than offering beliefs to adopt or practices to follow, this show explores a single question: What happens when we see clearly? Through the framework of Unified Theistic Naturalism (UTN), each episode examines the human condition—conflict, suffering, identity, love, fear, aging, and meaning—through the meeting point of biology, neuroscience, natural law, and communion with the Divine.

The Marketplace of Robes | Chapter 15 — The Robe Worn Lightly

THE MARKETPLACE OF ROBES Chapter 15 — The Robe Worn Lightly A Cinematic Philosophical Spoken-Word Series Written and Narrated by Patrick Carodine Unified Theistic Naturalism™ Morning returns to the Marketplace. Merchants lift their awnings. A tailor spreads worn fabric across his table. A traveler carries a robe repaired by people she has loved. Nothing has been destroyed. The garments still hang, and humanity still searches for understanding, comfort, healing, and belonging. But something profound has changed. The traveler no longer asks her robe to tell her who she is. In the final chapter of The Marketplace of Robes, Patrick Carodine brings this fifteen-part cinematic journey to its destination: not the rejection of religion, science, tradition, or philosophy, but freedom from the demand that any garment must grant permission to be whole. We return to the woman beside the hospital bed. Medicine still matters. Love still trembles before uncertainty. Yet she can hold a beloved hand without waiting for a guarantee. A man facing painful words need not surrender tomorrow to fear. A young person before a mirror can change without a permanent identity to justify Being. Unified Theistic Naturalism™ calls this communion: recognition and resonance with the Unwavering Line of the Divine, a reference that does not move whenever circumstances change. The Seven Attributes—Freedom, Unconditional Love, Compassion, Stillness, Truthfulness, Non-duality, and Wholeness—are not badges of spiritual achievement. They find expression in ordinary life, through honesty, protection, tenderness, boundaries, and care. The Four Pillars—Truth, Observation, Perfect Action, and Movement—describe life encountered and answered as it unfolds, not steps for earning Divine acceptance. The Five Gold Coins of the Captive—suffering, death, identity, injustice, and love—lose their authority as an impossible transaction. Communion does not erase pain, prevent death, excuse wrongdoing, or eliminate grief. It ends the demand that the present must first become something else. Even Unified Theistic Naturalism must never become another compulsory robe. In a final act of quiet beauty, the traveler sits beside the tailor. Together they mend a tear in her garment. She accepts the help with gratitude, places the robe across her shoulders, and returns to life. With intimate narration and a sweeping cinematic musical homecoming, The Robe Worn Lightly completes the journey into communion. The Marketplace will open again tomorrow. The Line will not have moved. And the traveler is already home. The Marketplace of Robes | Chapter 14 — When the Marketplace Loses Its Power

THE MARKETPLACE OF ROBES Chapter 14 — When the Marketplace Loses Its Power A Cinematic Philosophical Spoken-Word Series Written and Narrated by Patrick Carodine Unified Theistic Naturalism™ As evening settles over the Marketplace, the merchants begin lighting their lamps. Travelers gather beneath colorful awnings. Nothing appears to have changed. Then a woman approaches a familiar stall and says something unexpected. “Thank you.” Years earlier, she came here grieving a terrible loss. The merchant offered companionship and a community that helped her endure difficult nights. Their kindness was genuine. The garment brought warmth. But with time, she began believing she could never be whole without obeying everything the robe demanded. Doubt felt dangerous. Tonight, she returns neither to purchase another garment nor to condemn its maker. She has come to appreciate what was given—without asking it to become everything. In Chapter 14 of The Marketplace of Robes, Patrick Carodine explores the quiet moment when a framework loses its power to define the person who uses it. The stalls remain open. Knowledge, faith, and human care remain useful. But beneath the ordinary commerce lies another transaction: the hope that a particular garment will finally purchase certainty, permanent security, or permission to be whole. Through Unified Theistic Naturalism™, this chapter returns to the Five Gold Coins of the Captive: suffering, death, identity, injustice, and love. The traveler hopes to trade pain for certainty, mortality for permanence, and vulnerable love for a guarantee against loss. Yet no honest merchant can promise a human life without change, grief, or uncertainty. Communion does not deny suffering or eliminate our responsibilities. It interrupts the demand that the living present must first become something else before Being is complete. The woman may continue appreciating the shelter she once found. She may keep the robe, repair it, or set it down. None of those choices has to determine her Wholeness. With tender cinematic piano, resonant cello, and warm orchestral strings, this chapter offers recognition, not victory over the merchants. The Marketplace has not fallen. It has simply lost the authority to decide whether the traveler is complete. As she walks into the evening crowd, the familiar voices no longer sound like demands. They sound like people living. And nearby, someone carries a beloved robe lightly over one arm. Continue with Chapter 15 — The Robe Worn Lightly. The Marketplace of Robes | Chapter 13 — The Freedom to Wear Anything

THE MARKETPLACE OF ROBES Chapter 13 — The Freedom to Wear Anything A Cinematic Philosophical Spoken-Word Series Written and Narrated by Patrick Carodine Unified Theistic Naturalism™ On a bright morning, a woman returns to the Marketplace carrying a small parcel wrapped in paper. Inside rests her mother's shawl. Its edges bear careful repairs. Yet when she unfolds it, she remembers laughter in a familiar kitchen, gatherings filled with song, and the tenderness of a life that shaped her own. For years, she believed freedom meant leaving the shawl behind. It belonged to a tradition that had offered love and belonging, but also teachings she could no longer accept. Speaking honestly had cost her relationships. She feared that honoring the garment would mean surrendering the truth she had discovered. Now she holds it in her hands. She does not need it to explain the universe. She still loves it. In Chapter 13 of The Marketplace of Robes, Patrick Carodine explores a surprising discovery: genuine freedom does not require hostility toward everything that once mattered. A cherished hymn may preserve a beautiful memory without making every inherited doctrine unquestionable. A scientific explanation may guide responsible action without claiming authority over the totality of Being. A family custom may express gratitude without requiring obedience to an old fear. The garments can remain useful. Their authority need not be absolute. Later, someone asks the woman why she still wears her mother's shawl if she no longer believes everything she was taught. She could defend herself, argue, or remove it as proof of independence. Instead, she speaks simply of her mother. Freedom has no obligation to perform itself. Through Unified Theistic Naturalism™, this chapter distinguishes the garment from the living participant. A robe may carry knowledge, culture, memory, and love. It cannot rightfully dictate what a person must believe in order to be whole. Freedom also does not mean tolerating deception or harm. Truthfulness may call for disagreement; Compassion may require boundaries. Unconditional Love need not become submission. With warm cinematic piano, cello, strings, and the atmosphere of a Marketplace awakening in sunlight, The Freedom to Wear Anything invites listeners to reconsider the relationship between belonging and liberty. The woman lays her mother's shawl across her shoulders. Tomorrow she may choose another garment—or none at all. The difference is not what she wears. It is that the robe no longer owns the wearer.
