Let's Get Absurd Together!
Have you ever considered Absurdity to be a Grounding experience? That it can be something you can do to stop the spiral of emotions or “what if’s”? In this episode (and article) I share some Absolutely Absurd statements and actions that can help.
What are your favorites?Do you have any you wanna add?I look forward to reading your comments.
PS Here is the Blog post: https://healingcraftcoaching.com/post/Lets-Get-Absurd-Together'
Below are the statements I share in the article:
Absurd phrases to help you “reset” your Mind and Nervous System when needed:
Look around the room and name 3 things that can be used to fight a Dragon. Or a Goblin, your choice.
Say, “If I pass out right now… that’s just a free nap.” Then ask yourself if you do in fact need a nap right now. Ask yourself what you need in this moment. Then gift it to yourself.
Realize that “I am in a Meat Suit powered by a lump of fat acting like gremlin. Let’s get some food, water and maybe a treat. Gremlins like those, right?”
Sing, “1, 2, 3, 4, I won’t pass out on the floor!” then go sit down and drink water… Give yourself Compassionate Self Care
Sing, “5, 6, 7, 8, Let’s see what I create!” Then go create something… doodle, whatever makes you happy for a minute or 3.
Sing, “Come on Barbie, Let’s go Party” then move and do the thing.
Sing, “I’m to sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt” (sing more if you wanna) Reminds me of how my clothes can hurt when my nerves are in overload.
Realize, “I am being Spicy right now… this means I need a Sweet!!!” (Then treat yourself)
Put your hand on your Heart… Now sing… “I Love You.. You Love Me… right now we’re in misery… With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you… won’t you relax with me too? “
If the words and songs don’t quite cut it for you, here are some absurd things you can DO to help:
Dance Party!!! Thow on something fun that makes you feel GOOD and Dance! Even 1 song can help a LOT.
Scribble Scrabble all over the page with bright markers or crayons. Just like a toddler having a Blast! No Rules. No Judgement! Just getting it out.
Squeeze or Hit one of your pillows. (do this while alone though…) The physical act can shift your emotions just enough to get you out of that state and able to do what you want or need to do.
Grab a rock or crystal (stress ball can work here too), something that fits in your palm. Then squeeze as hard as you feel the need too. Switch hands and repeat as many times as you feel the need.
Ice cold anything against your neck, cheeks, wrists or even the top of your head. That can help reset our system. Do where it feels best for you. All bodies are different.
Do you have any dice? Roll it. Use that number as how many things you need to touch, smell, hear, etc…. If you have some yummy goodies nearby, I won’t tell you NOT to use that number as a recommendation on how many you can have…. Yes, I crave sweets when my nervous system is needing stability. This also works for chips, sips of soda or juice, etc… You make the rules here!
The very first one I suggested…. ) Look around the room and name 3 things that can be used to fight a Dragon. Or a Goblin, your choice.) Instead of just naming the items, go touch them too. Maybe swing them around, toss them up in the air (if safe to do so, of course…) The act of preparing can soothe our system… It can remind us that “We Got This”.So Much Love and Support!!!!Love,Niki
