UMP #05 Suicide Awareness
According to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. In 2018, 48,344 Americans died by suicide, and in the same year there were 1.4 million suicide attempts. In this podcast episode, I discuss some statistics associated with suicide in the U.S. and some of the reason I believe drives people to take their lives. In this episode I also discuss what can we do if we suspect someone is dealing with suicidal thoughts.

In this episode, I interview my good friend Alex Michaels about the meaning and journey of his life, and what he thinks our young generation needs to know in this age of time. Alex Michaels is 74-years-old, he has been 37 years sober and still attends AA rigorously. A few years ago, Alex graduate as a drug and alcohol counselor and is currently working in the substance abuse field. In this episode he discusses how going to school later in life has helped him to continue contributing to this world, giving his life more meaning.

This is the second part of the topic, the importance of fatherhood. In this episode I discuss personal experiences while working with fathers and how applying new fatherhood knowledge in their lives, has led some fathers to develop positive relationships with their children. In this episode, I also discuss how children transitioning into adolescence struggle when their father is not present based on my observations of working with this population. Lastly, I point out some things single mothers can do when the father of their child is not involved in their lives.
