Hosted by Dr. Misty, Untamed Ember brings real, unfiltered conversations about sex, relationships, kink, and polyamory into the open. Dr. Misty is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist & Supervisor, clinically licensed in Washington State, Maryland, Virginia, and D.C., and a radically inclusive educator helping people reclaim pleasure without outdated “shoulds,” shame spirals, or performative nonsense. Here, we don’t do cold, clinical sex talk or vague, fluffy advice. We do real conversations about desire, intimacy, identity, and the glorious mess of being human in a body with a nervous system.    Relationship Anarchy Explained: What It Really Takes to Build Relationships Without Hierarchy

   What is relationship anarchy, and does it really mean having no rules, labels, or commitments? Relationship anarchy is often misunderstood as a relationship philosophy without structure or responsibility. But practicing relationship anarchy requires something much more intentional: building relationships around the actual needs, agreements, and commitments of the people involved instead of following inherited expectations about who should matter most. In Episode 9 of Untamed Ember, Dr. Misty Gibson explores what relationship anarchy looks like in everyday life, how it differs from hierarchical polyamory, and why removing traditional relationship hierarchies doesn't automatically create emotional security.    Neurodivergence & Ethical Non-Monogamy: When Standard Relationship Advice Doesn't Fit

   What if the problem isn’t that you’re bad at ethical non-monogamy, but that the advice you’ve been given was built for a nervous system that doesn’t work like yours? In Season 2, Episode 8 of Untamed Ember, Dr. Misty explores ethical non-monogamy through a neurodivergent lens, including how autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, executive function, masking, and rejection sensitivity can change what communication and relationship support actually need to look like. A lot of standard ENM advice assumes people can process emotions verbally in real time, tolerate last-minute changes, manage multiple schedules and emotional threads, and consistently initiate difficult conversations. For many neurodivergent people, those expectations create unnecessary strain and can make a relationship structure feel unworkable when the real problem is the method, not the relationship. Through the story of Jules and Robin, this episode looks at what happens when someone stops trying to perform the “right” version of polyamory and starts building a relationship structure around their actual nervous system.    Co-Regulation in Polyamory: Finding Your Own Ground Before You Find Each Other

   Co-regulation is one of the ways human nervous systems find safety with each other. But what happens when one partner becomes your only reliable way back to steady ground? In Season 2, Episode 7 of Untamed Ember, Dr. Misty explores co-regulation, self-regulation, and nervous system capacity inside polyamory and ethical non-monogamy. Non-monogamy doesn’t necessarily create dependence on a partner for regulation. Sometimes, it simply exposes a single-anchor system that was already there. Through the story of Noor and Theo, we look at what happens when years of relying on one partner for regulation collide with changing availability, multiple relationships, and a nervous system that hasn’t had much opportunity to build its own internal toolkit. Dr. Misty breaks down the difference between healthy interdependence and making one person responsible for your entire regulatory system, including the concept of “regulation debt,” the window of tolerance, and why support works differently when it functions as scaffolding rather than a permanent substitute for self-regulation. You’ll also hear practical ways to build a wider and more sustainable regulation system, including developing your own nervous system toolkit, noticing when you’re choosing support versus automatically reaching for your only available regulator, widening support beyond romantic partners, talking honestly about capacity, and allowing different relationships to offer different kinds of support. The goal isn’t to stop needing the people you love. It’s to have enough ground of your own that co-regulation becomes something you share with each other rather than something one person has to carry for everyone else.
