   I Was Doing Art Wrong

For too many years I had a strong ideas about the kinds of songs I wanted to create and such high standards that I ended up blocking myself off from the flow. My creativity just barely trickled.… a new song every year or two and musical evolution at a snail’s pace, goals piling up without any real progress. Now it kind of seems silly to me. Now I’m taking a new approach to music and art in general, and embracing my lo-fi imperfections. I finally I feel like I love making things, writing songs, jamming, making videos like these and putting my ideas or feelings into words. I may not be Prince but I think I can finally understand the artistic headspace it took for him to be able to write a song a day and for the first time in my life I feel like I am doing what I was meant to do. If you are interested, you can watch the music only version of this video here (https://youtu.be/WQpVf1XtOws)

In this important conversation with Javier (@drrune), we go deep into what trust actually is and why it always seems to be broken, how we may be looking at it the wrong way, and how learning to build trust could potentially fix many problems both in our personal lives and in the structure of society and our communities. YouTube vs. Podcasting & The Social Media Grind - w/ Mark James Hill

This is the conversation that convinced me to put up these conversations on audio only podcast platforms like Spotify Apple and Fountain. Prior to this I had been uploading to YouTube. We discuss the struggle artists have trying to share their work on social media and the benefits of different approaches. Mark James Hill is an actor, model and photographer. He’s best known for playing Nikolai in Resident Evil 3, but I recommend you check out his photography too!

How to beat your Nigerian child - Cultural differences raising kids

This may be the most controversial podcast we’ve recorded so far. This time we discuss our opinions and experience being disciplined as kids. Obviously our upbringings are very different, from being diagnosed ADHD to the strict Asian upbringing to being hit by teachers. We come from Hong Kong, USA and Nigeria so we have very different stories to share. We go deep on this one. The Struggles of “Struggling Artists” w/ Vincent Nijman

Vincent and I talk about how we find inspiration to create art (music, fiction, movies) and what motivates our creativity. Both of us have been struggling to find a balance between monetizing our work and keeping it honest and raw. It took us some time but we are finally finding our artistic flow and our voices.

Balancing Money & Freedom in Asia, Africa, and America w/ Chingyi and Josediccus

This was a test-run episode from 2021. 3 of us from 3 places share our struggles with money and working, freelance, our attitude towards investments, and how we are navigating this evolving world landscape. Interest in cryptocurrency and Bitcoin as potential mechanisms for social evolution is something that all 3 of us share, and so our conversation naturally leaned towards that towards the end. Josediccus (Joseph), a friend from Nigeria who I met at hive(.blog), a monetized social media platform, agreed to do this trial episode with me before we did the 'real thing' and it went so well that we decided to share it. We had literally no plan except to do a test run and see how it felt. While we were warming up, Ching Yi, another friend from Hong Kong jumped on and joined us for the rest of the chat as a shotgun co-host. A spiritual Connection with animals and places - w/ Javier (@Drrune)

Talking with Javier about connecting with the city in a spiritual way, facing the shadow, and life as a mirror. Javier is from Venezula and is someone I often find insight from and share ideas with. He is a rune reader, artist, and perhaps even an urban shaman. Our conversation flows from the concept of urban shamanism and our respective locations in Venezuela and Japan (part 1), to our evolving relationship with animals and the spirituality of storytelling (part 2) and finally, shadow work (part 3). We will do this again very soon. I love hearing Javier’s perspective. It resembles mine but with a lot more study of religious text and tradition, fictional narratives, and the occult. Staying sane in a crazy world (w/ Ching Yi)

We recorded this after 2 years of the pandemic. Friends around the world were stuck at home, numb and depressed and not sure what to do with themselves. A tiny handful of people I knew were staying positive, myself and Ching Yi included and so we tried to share a little bit of those good vibes with our friends through this podcast episode. I love having her on because she always asks great questions. The main topic we wanted to talk about was how we explore self love and self healing, but as usual, we float around these topics very liberally. Polygamy and Customs in Nigeria 🇳🇬 (w/ Karina)

What’s considered normal varies from place to place. In some countries, it’s normal to have 1 kid, in others, it’s normal to have 33. In this episode I talk to Karina about polygamy in Nigeria and what it’s like having such a huge family. We also go into traditional medicine practices, many of which I misunderstand when I first hear them. When I can finally travel to Africa I want to stop in Nigeria. For all it’s problems, there are a ton of interesting people there with amazing stories. I don’t mind this kind of culture shock one bit.  This was one of my favorite episodes yet.  Karina's blog:   https://peakd.com/@young-boss-karin Check out Zack’s work: Confessions of the Damaged by I+Everything - A collection of short stories that follows a homeless wanderer who talks to trees as he untangles through memories and dreams. Linktree -music, merch, Patreon twitter : @ipluseverything instagram: @untangled_knots

Two artistic fuck-ups talk about failure - w/ Vincent Nijman

Vincent Nijman is a “failed filmmaker” and the mind behind Hypersensitivosaurus, a series of illustrated kids stories for adults. He and I go deep into our creative process and where our inspiration come from, how we interpret what others consider failures and how we keep growing and evolving as artists. We go into how we both struggled with the balance between producing art non commercially and making a living, confidence or lack of confidence in the quality of our work, being understood or misunderstood and a lot of the struggles that so-called "struggling artists" face. When AI makes me irrelevant…

AI and automation are the hot topic right now and while some people are excited, others are worried about losing their jobs and the potential dangers of this new technology. I find myself worried about what I’m going to do if this technology makes it near-impossible to find a job and what kind of social implications that might have. I’m trying my best to remain positive though, as the future is totally unknown, and while it’s totally possible that this artificial intelligence will lead to dystopia or total destruction it’s just as likely that it will reign in a new age of abundance where people are able to pursue their passions and do what they love. This is how I’m navigating these feelings right now. Chatbot gpt and dall-e made me realized just how quickly things are going to change, but I’m going to try to make the most of it. If you like what I share here, I also have a novella series, music, merch and a blog: https://linktr.ee/selfhelp4trolls Twitter: @ipluseverything Instagram: @untangledknots YouTube: @untangledknots
