[…] And then there's obviously the muscle weakness, which is the myositis. Because there are multiple types of myositis, but for me, it's polymyositis, which is the muscle weakness, but without the skin involvement. For listeners who are unfamiliar, antisynthetase syndrome falls under the larger umbrella of myositis, a group of rare conditions that causes muscle inflammation and weakness. There are different types of myositis that can affect the body in different ways. In addition to antisynthetase syndrome, YI also has polymyositis, which primarily affects her muscles. Other types include dermatomyositis, which can affect the skin, and inclusion body myositis, which tends to cause muscle weakness that develops more gradually. […]
