Jebra Faushay did everything right. She marched. She masked. She decolonized. She was, by any reasonable progressive measure, one of the good ones.
Then something went wrong.
UNWOKE is the fictional memoir of one suburban Los Angeles mother's eight-year descent into ideological certainty and her embarrassing, reluctant, deeply funny crawl back out. Each episode follows Jebra through the events that defined a decade of American life: CHAZ, an ecosexual wedding, a decolonized Thanksgiving, a crypto scam, a rage choir, and the slow realization that she may have been the problem all along.
Chapter 45: Orange Man Not So Bad, Chapter 46: Post-Election Clarity, Chapter 47: Poolhouse Confessions
Jebra drives to Whole Foods the day after Trump wins. She keeps her face carefully neutral. She has voted for the man and is not ready to tell anyone yet. It might be a secret she takes to the grave.
Her yoga class is as somber as a funeral. Everyone wears black. The city has not collapsed into a fascist hellscape overnight. She had been quietly suspecting it wouldn't.
At home, Brad and Kip have the unmistakable energy of people who have been right about something and are exercising extraordinary restraint. Ginsburg is not exercising restraint. He has ordered a life-size J.D. Vance cutout for the landing.
Jebra has a fire pit, a pile of things she no longer wants.
She tosses the White Women for Kamala merch first. Then the Biden 2020 shirts, still folded, barely worn. The BRAT SUMMER drawing. The bumper stickers, including the COEXIST ones.
Brad says that Jebra should come on the podcast and tell her story. Kip agrees.
Ginsburg later tells her: "You're no Matt Walsh, but I guess it's okay."

Chapter 42: Literaleigh, Chapter 43: Say It Ain't So! Chapter 44: Spiritual Twinning & The Night Before and the Morning After
Literaleigh has a stomachache. Jebra rushes her to the ERand requests a BIPOC physician, LGBTQIA+ if possible. The intake form has no field for preferred pronouns
Driving home past a homeless camp Jebra realizes she hasn'treally looked at her daughter in months. She's been too busy looking at everyone else.
Then the political compass quiz appears on her laptop. Shetakes it once. Then again. Then a third time. Then on a different site. Then, on Arson's recommended quiz, using her alt account because Arson has blocked her.
YOUR POLITICAL TWIN IS: DONALD J. TRUMP
Then it's Election Day.

Chapter 40: Rally of Regret, Chapter 41: It Started With Silence
Months ago, Jebra said yes to giving a speech at a KamalaHarris rally. She imagined herself as the Martin Luther King of the present day. She had a dream, too.
But when she opens her mouth to deliver the Kamala quote she rehearsed forty times. It's gone. Completely gone. In its place: "We must win this election because if we don't win,we're losers."
Then Arson goes silent. Then Echo. Then the book club. Thenthe poetry circle. Then the drum circle group chat. Then the church stops sending emails.
Four days later, Jebra finds Arson in Trader Joe's, and she unloads her list of crimes Jebra has committed:
The charges are read: she didn't post a black square. She misgendered Karol. She gave Becoming one staron Goodreads and more.
That night, scrolling Instagram at midnight, Jebra finds aphoto of Arson hugging Howland Dray, the transformational coach. She swipes to Arson's profile. USER NOT FOUND.
