[…] And that's when they saw the dollar bills on the wall over there. They saw the dollar bills in the bar because all the miners had left their dollar bills up there because that was a mining tradition. So miners could have a drink on their way home without having money on them underground because a bartender wouldn't give a minor open credit because it was too easy for them to die underground. So they made a deal. They put a dollar bill behind the bar with their name on it and the bartender would keep track of how much they had to drink until they got paid again. Once they got paid, they'd bring the tab back up and the dollar bill would just stay there on the wall. […]
