Welcome to the raw, unfiltered side of nutrition for women over 40. We’re talking fat loss, mindset, following through on your goals and building a strong, healthy body your future self will thank you for.
Think of me as your nutrition best friend. I’m here to make nutrition feel simple again, so you know what matters, what doesn’t and what BS you can confidently ignore.
Why Am I Not Losing Weight If I’m in a Calorie Deficit?
If you’re in a calorie deficit, why aren’t you losing weight? And does it mean your metabolism has slowed down or you’ve gone into “starvation mode”?
In this episode, I’m breaking down what can actually be happening when weight loss slows or stops. We’ll talk about how calorie needs are estimated, why energy balance changes throughout a fat-loss phase, what happens to energy expenditure and hunger as we lose weight, and why the calories burned on your fitness tracker may not be as useful as you think.
I also talk about calorie tracking, when it can be helpful, and what I’d look at before automatically lowering calories or adding more exercise.
If your weight loss has stalled, this episode will give you a better idea of what might be going on and what to look at next.

Does More Effort Mean Better Results?
When it comes to losing weight, we tend to assume that if we try harder, do more and become more disciplined, we'll get better results.
And usually, that makes sense. But it doesn't always work that way.
This week I'm talking about effort, where we're putting it, and whether doing more is actually helping.

Weight Loss Progress: Why the Scale Isn’t the Whole Story
We put a lot of weight on the number we see on the scale when we’re trying to lose weight. But sometimes that means we overlook all the other ways we’re making progress.
In this episode, I’m talking about non-scale victories, why they matter, and why some of them might actually be the reason you wanted to lose weight in the first place.
A short and sweet one this week.

Are Our Protein Needs Overhyped?
Protein has become a BIG thing. It’s being added to everything and we’re constantly being told we need more of it. So…do we?
This week I’m talking about how much we actually need, whether more is better, protein quality and how our needs change as we get older.

The Boring Basics: What Actually Matters for Your Health
There is a lot of nutrition advice competing for our attention online. Cortisol, blood sugar, hormones, metabolism, supplements...there is always something new we're being told we need to worry about.
And meanwhile, some of the things that have the biggest impact on our health are also the least exciting.
In this episode, I'm bringing it back to four basics: sleep, nutrition, hydration and movement. I talk about why they matter, what the research actually tells us, and where I'd focus before worrying about all the other stuff you're hearing online.
Because getting really good at the boring stuff may not be exciting, but it's a pretty fab place to start.

All-or-Nothing Thinking: Why You Keep Starting Again Monday
If you’ve ever had a few days where things didn’t go very well and thought, “I’ll just start again Monday,” this episode is for you.
All-or-nothing thinking is incredibly common and sometimes we don’t even realize we’re doing it.
So I wanted to talk about how we end up there in the first place and why always starting over might actually be part of the problem.
Because maybe the thing you need to get better at isn’t starting again.
Maybe it’s learning how to keep going.

Core 3: A Simple Way to Make Nutrition Easier
Nutrition doesn’t need to take over your life in order to work.
In this episode, I’m sharing Core 3, a simple structure I created years ago to make my own nutrition easier and that I now use with many of my clients.
I’ll walk you through how Core 3 works, why I focus on protein, fruits and vegetables and food volume, and how creating a little more structure earlier in your day can give you more flexibility later.
If you want to try Core 3 for yourself, DM me CORE 3 on Instagram and I’ll send you the free guide.

You Lost the Weight. Now What?
We put so much attention into losing weight that we almost assume maintaining it will happen automatically once we reach our goal.
In this episode, I’m talking about why maintenance can still be difficult even when you have more food and more flexibility, why we’re often pretty good at extremes, and why staying at your new weight still requires some intention.
Losing weight gets most of the attention, but learning how to stay there is the actual long-term goal.
If you’re tired of losing weight only to gain it back again and want help doing it differently, head to veyanutrition.ca.

Your Hard Days Tell Me More Than Your Good Ones
We spend a lot of time focusing on what we do when things are going well, but what about the days when we’re tired, our cravings are higher and we just don’t feel like doing any of it?
In this episode, I’m talking about why the way you respond to those harder days matters so much. I share something that came up in a client check-in this week, what I mean by optimal vs. non-negotiable targets, and why making progress doesn’t always mean doing everything perfectly.
Sometimes you don’t need to turn the switch off. You just need to turn it down a little.

Do You Actually Need to Worry About That?
There is A LOT of nutrition advice out there. Carbs in your 40s, intermittent fasting, glucose spikes, eating before workouts, coffee before water, supplements…the list honestly just goes on and on.
But how much of it do you actually need to worry about?
In this episode, I’m talking about why trying to manage everything can make nutrition way more complicated than it needs to be, how to figure out what actually deserves your attention, and why having some flexibility within your plan matters.
Because you probably don’t need to do more. You need to figure out what actually matters for you.
