mRNA im Einsatz bei Proteinmangelkrankheiten
Seit den Corona-Impfstoffen sind mRNAs vielen Menschen ein Begriff. Als „Baupläne“ zeigen sie Zellen, wie man ein bestimmtes Protein bildet, z.B. das Spikeprotein des Coronavirus. Danach werden sie vom Körper wieder abgebaut. Die potenziellen Anwendungsgebiete gehen aber weit über Impfstoffe hinaus: Technisch hergestellte und von außen zugeführte mRNAs könnten auch Menschen helfen, in deren Körper ein bestimmtes Protein defekt ist oder fehlt.
