Developing This One Skill is the Key to Teaching Adult Students with Kim Richardson

Adults teaching other adults. It's so different than teaching children. Children are fresh, always learning new things so being taught comes natural to them. Adults come with their own life experiences. They know their learning styles and they also may experience fear or resistance to learning new things.

Confidence coach and public speaking aficionado Amber Rose West sits down with yoga teacher Kim Richardson to discuss the skills needed to be an adult teacher to adult students.

*The conversation is heavily based around yoga, because Kim is a yoga teacher, however, many of the things we discuss can be useful for teachers in any field*

HIGHLIGHTS

• Creating spaces where people feel calm enough to be open when learning new things

• Becoming a teacher to represent others who resonate with you

• Making learning more accessible

• Adults often fall into the "I tried it once and didn't like it...so I'm never doing it again." How do we help adults embrace being students that explore?

• Learning something new will take practice and you should be able to practice your own way.

• Children have extreme courage when learning. How do we as teachers instill that courage in our adult students?

• When practice becomes performative, it drains you. How to do you shift away from being performative to genuinely practicing?

• Why do we shame ourselves or others for using supportive tools while we're learning?

• The best ways to create community around what you're learning

CONNECT WITH AMBER ROSE WEST

Website: www.vibrantconfidence.com

FB: www.facebook.com/vibrantamberrose

IG: www.instagram.com/vibrantamberrose

TT: www.tiktok.com/@vibrantamberrose

CONNECT WITH KIM RICHARDSON

IG: www.instagram.com/yesyouyoga_wellness

For information on the Accessible Yoga Association, please visit:

www.accessibleyoga.org/instagram

Speaking Techniques for Adults Teaching Other Adults

Teaching adults is different than teaching children. Children are learning things for the first time so teachers take their time, are slow during demonstration, and have more amounts of patience and compassion during their learning process. As adults, we sometimes lose the important parts of teaching that truly allow another to absorb and understand what is being taught to them.

If you're an adult teaching other adults, this episode is for you! Join public speaking aficionado and confidence coach Amber Rose West as she breaks down the best speaking techniques for adults teaching other adults.

CONNECT WITH AMBER ROSE WEST

Website: www.vibrantconfidence.com

Facebook: www.facebook.com/vibrantamberrose

Instagram: www.instagram.com/vibrantamberrose

TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@vibrantamberrose

[EDIT: Book that was referenced is Perfectly Imperfect by Baron Baptiste (not Imperfect Action.)]
