Ep. 11: Tom Green, Longtime Denver TV Personality

Tom Green was born and raised in Manhattan, but you'd never know it. He's too nice. He moved to Denver for a job in 1980 and basically never left having worked for 9News, Denver 7, KWGN Channel 2, The Fan fm radio, and back at 9News. He started in sports, has moved over to news, and has built a sterling reputation as a great broadcaster and an even better guy. On this episode of Vic Lombardi's Denver, Vic welcomes his old friend Tom as they reminisce about the news business of yesterday, share stories about legendary Nuggets coach Doug Moe and the history of the Nuggets, discuss the NBA Finals-bound Denver Nuggets of today, talk about the most challenging part of the news business, and project where things go from here. Ep. 9: Lance Armstrong, Sports Icon

You didn't come here for the description. Odds are you know Lance Armstrong. As Vic says in this episode, Lance Armstrong is almost certainly one of the three greatest and most decorated athletes of his generation (along with Tiger Woods and Michael Phelps). Lance and Vic add the names Michael Phelps and Serena Williams to that list later in the episode, but the point stands. Lance Armstrong is a globally-recognized icon due to his accomplishments, his controversies, and his complex legacy. On this remarkable episode of Vic Lombardi's Denver, Vic and Lance discuss their 30 year history together (which began in Austin, TX), they share proper etiquette for both motorists and cyclists, expound upon their shared love of golf, and Lance gets candid about his career. He talks his cameo in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, he philosophizes on his reinvention, and we get a sneak peek of two men with a shared history having a fascinating conversation. Ep. 8: Stacey Stegman, Senior Vice President of Communications at Denver International Airport

Vic Lombardi asserts that aside from Quarterback of the Denver Broncos, no one has a more difficult job title in Denver than Stacey Stegman. Her full title is Senior Vice President of Communications, Marketing & Customer Experience at Denver International Airport. Everyone, it seems, complains about air travel, and Stacey is there to field them all. Prior to her role at DIA, Stacey was Public Relations Director for Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), so she heard all of your traffic gripes, too. A Colorado native, Stacey joins Vic to talk all things travel from highways to trains to airplanes to the magical trip your baggage takes through the airport. She also talks about her career journey, why she thought she'd end up on the same side of the media equation as Vic, some of the stranger and more harrowing tales from the PR trenches and more. Plus, she tells you how to optimize your visit to DIA. Available on podcatchers everywhere. Please rate, review and subscribe on your favorite platform. This show is a part of Mile High Life. Adam Cayton-Holland is a Denver native whose website (https://adamcaytonholland.com/) describes him as "comic, writer, actor, blah blah blah." He is a national touring comic who has appeared on CONAN, Comedy Central Presents, The Late Late Show with James Corden, @midnight, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, and more. He has been named one of Esquire magazine’s “25 Comics to Watch” and one of “10 Comics to Watch” by Variety. Adam talks about his upbringing, his career journey, he and Vic's shared competitiveness, why he has two last names, the best set he ever did (which, oddly enough, no one has ever asked him before), and the tragic suicide of his sister, which prompted Adam to write the book Tragedy + Time: A Tragi-comic Memoir (https://www.amazon.com/Tragedy-Plus-Time-Tragi-comic-Memoir/dp/1501170163). This episode is funny, insightful, and filled with tons of killer anecdotes about our fair city. Ep. 5: Reggie Rivers, Entrepreneur, Author, Media Personality, Former Denver Bronco

According to Vic, Reggie Rivers is "the smartest man [he's] ever known." That's a bold statement, but after listening to this episode, it's hard to disagree with. In addition to being a beloved former Denver Bronco, Reggie Rivers is an author of five books, an accomplished media personality and public speaker, and President of The Gala Team (https://thegalateam.com/), a team of experienced and dedicated professionals who specialize in nonprofit fundraising events. On this episode Vic and Reggie talk about Reggie's journey from military brat to unlikely college football star, to even unlikelier NFL player, to his eventual cut from the Denver Broncos. Reggie even shares which football position lends itself to the dumbest players. It's post-football that the conversation finds another gear as Reggie shares insights about everything from sports gambling to wars between ant colonies, to the richness of our democracy (and what threatens it), to the George Floyd protests of 2020. There's lots of laughs between old friends, new insights, and a thoroughly fun and rewarding listening experience. Available on podcatchers everywhere. Ep. 4: Wende Curtis, Owner of Comedy Works

Wende Curtis is the Owner of Comedy Works (https://comedyworks.com/). She started her career at the long since closed Fort Collins location as a cocktail waitress and worked her way up through the organization as booker, as general manager, as rehabilitator of failing clubs, and ultimately as owner. In this candid conversation with Vic, Wende shares stories of overcoming a severe eating disorder, why adding real estate to her business has helped her grow and prosper, and a litany of other thorny and interesting issues she's dealt with in 36+ years in the comedy buisness. How did Wende navigate the closure of her clubs during COVID, and why was it so hard to get staff once she was set to re-open? How does she make judgments about comics who have admitted to doing terrible things and whether or not they can come back to the club? Why do comics continue to love to come to Denver, and what business choices has she made that have contributed to her reputation? What innovations has she instituted that has helped keep her clubs vital, relevant, and thriving? All of this, along with anecdotes about everyone from Dave Chappelle to Denver's own The Grawlix and Sam Tallent to Mitch Hedberg to Joe Rogan to Bill Hicks are inside this episode. Ep. 3: Mayor of Denver, Michael Hancock

Michael Hancock is one of only three people to serve three terms as Mayor of the City and County of Denver (https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Agencies-Departments-Offices/Agencies-Departments-Offices-Directory/Mayors-Office). As he nears the end of his third term, he joins Vic and reflects on his ascent to Mayor, the multitude of issues he's tackled, and the evolution of Denver. Mayor Hancock and Vic have both spent the bulk of their lives in Denver, and in this intimate chat between two Denver lifers, Mayor Hancock shares the things he's most proud of during his tenure, how he's dealt with criticism, and discusses what has contributed to Denver's homeless issue. He also answers this question: If he were able to run for a fourth term, would he? If you're a long time Denver resident you'll enjoy hearing stories about the likes of former Mayor Federico Pena, former sportscaster Ron Zappolo, some of Denver's most marquee high school athletes and a lot more. And if that doesn't convince, you've got to hear the stories of when a high school aged Michael Hancock spent one season as the Broncos mascot. No, not Miles. Huddles!
