About Vice Principal UnOfficed

The bell has rung, the kids are in the halls, and the office door is finally closed. Welcome to Vice Principal UnOfficed. Ironically, host Lisa Hill never planned to work in education—but thanks to her dad, that’s exactly where she ended up. Now retired after a career spanning roles as a school counselor, college professor, and vice principal, Lisa is opening up the "confidential" files to prove that truth really is stranger (and definitely funnier) than fiction in K–12 schools. Vice Principal UnOfficed takes listeners behind the scenes of the real-life chaos inside American public schools. Weaving together stories from Lisa’s own unexpected journey and the unforgettable moments that shaped her career, the show delivers a masterclass in school culture—with a sharp dose of sarcasm. It’s the kind of "professional development" you actually want to attend: insightful, heart-centered, and just enough wisdom to keep you sane. Families Don’t Experience Departments. They Experience Your School. - Your Morning Boost: A School Leadership Podcast

Families Don’t Experience Departments. They Experience Your School. Schools organize themselves into departments because it makes the work manageable. Families don’t experience us that way. When a parent reaches out with one problem, they aren’t thinking about student services, communications, counseling, administration, or which department owns the answer. They simply see their child’s school — and every handoff, delayed response, and communication gap becomes part of that experience. In this episode, we sit down with Ian Nenke to explore what school leaders can learn by looking at our systems through the eyes of families. We talk about parent communication, cultural differences, responsiveness, trust, and why sometimes the best thing a leader can do is take ownership of finding an answer rather than sending a family somewhere else. We also look at how easily internal structures can become external frustration. One example: a single parent email with several questions that ultimately touched four different offices. From the school’s perspective, that may make organizational sense. From the family’s perspective, it can feel fragmented, slow, and confusing. The question isn’t simply whether each department is doing its job well. It’s whether the entire experience makes sense from the other side. What You’ll Hear: Why families experience the school as one system, not separate departments How handoffs and communication gaps can quickly become trust problems Why a quick, honest response matters even when you don’t yet have the answer Why taking ownership often matters more than knowing exactly who “owns” the issue How small, sincere interactions help families decide whether a school feels responsive, connected, and human Key Takeaways: Families experience the whole school, not the organizational chart A short, honest response is often more valuable than silence Leaders build trust by taking ownership and helping families find answers Small interactions across a school can strengthen the sense of community Seeing the school through a parent’s eyes can reveal gaps that internal structures hide 🎧 Listen to Your Morning Boost: https://push.fm/fl/yourmorningboost (https://push.fm/fl/yourmorningboost)

Wait...That Came Out of the School Budget?

What’s really going on behind the scenes of public school budgets? In this episode, host Lisa Hill pulls back the curtain on the often confusing—and sometimes downright absurd—world of school spending. Through a mix of humor and firsthand experience, she shares stories that highlight the gap between what schools need and what budgets actually prioritize. From overflowing closets of unused supplies to questionable purchases that leave teachers shaking their heads, Lisa explores how small decisions can add up to big financial consequences. Along the way, she unpacks the bureaucratic challenges educators face and the frustrating reality of trying to do more with less. But this isn’t just about funny stories—it’s about accountability. Because when school spending misses the mark, it’s not just educators who feel it—it’s students, communities, and taxpayers. If you’ve ever wondered how funding decisions are made in education—or questioned where those dollars actually go—this episode offers a candid, thought-provoking look at a system that deserves a closer examination. 🔑 Key Takeaways School budgeting can often feel chaotic, with purchasing decisions that don’t always align with classroom needs Everyday items like supplies and tech can reveal deeper systemic inefficiencies Teachers frequently navigate a disconnect between limited resources and questionable spending choices Outdated or unnecessary purchases can lead to wasted taxpayer dollars Greater transparency and accountability are essential for responsible school funding 🔗 Mentioned in This Episode Amazon BlackBerry Palm iPhone 🎧 Why Listen?
