S3 E Halloween - The Raven - The Philosophy of Composition - The Breakdown

Spooktacular October Ghosties and Ghoulies,

What do you think of first when you hear, “The Raven?”

Fear?

Terror?

The Simpsons?

Death?

Well, we thought of all of those things and more throughout this breakdown episode of “The Raven,” by Edgar Allen Poe. This eerie poem is a rollercoaster of emotions, and can elicit different ones from person to person. The foremost emotion felt by most is that of loss, and mourning. Poe had the intent to elicit dread from the audience, as pointed out in his essay, “The Philosophy of Composition,” produced a year after “The Raven.” Was he defending his own writing, or laying the groundwork to shape future generations of poets?

Find out in this week’s breakdown episode.

Before you listen, check us out on Instagram for pictures to go along with the episode. @Victorian_Periodical_Parade

On Facebook, /VictorianParade to stay up to date with our content rollout.

On X formerly known as Twitter, @VictorianParade, to watch clips and excerpts of our episodes, so you can pick your favorites.

On Youtube, to see the video version of each episode. https://youtube.com/@victorian_periodical_parade?si=IA1ICnpKp8HCQiG6

Or email us directly at victorianperiodicalparade@gmail.com

Have a haunted October,

Owen, Daniel, and Kari

"Magic Escape Room"

Kevin MacLeod

(incompetech.com)

Licensed Under Creative Commons:

By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

"Morgana Rides"

Kevin MacLeod

(incompetech.com)

Licensed Under Creative Commons:

By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

"Night Vigil"

Kevin MacLeod

(incompetech.com)

Licensed Under Creative Commons:

By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

"Symmetry"

Kevin MacLeod

(incompetech.com)

Licensed Under Creative Commons:

By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/victorianparade/support

S3 E Halloween - The Raven - Edgar Allen Poe

Happy Spooky times to one and all,

This October we shall be narrating American author, Edgar Allan Poe's famously eerie poem “The Raven.” It was published in the New York Evening Mirror On January 29, 1845 and was equally praised and panned by critics of the day. How good is your knowledge of “The Raven?” Are there any bits that you were surprised by in this week’s episode, upon hearing it anew?

Let us know on social media.

Have a haunted October,

Owen, Daniel, and Kari

Find us here:

Instagram @Victorian_Periodical_Parade

Twitter @VictorianParade

Facebook /VictorianParade

Youtube https://youtube.com/@victorian_periodical_parade?si=IA1ICnpKp8HCQiG6

or via email at victorianperiodicalparade@gmail.com

https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=loc.ark%3A%2F13960%2Ft87h2cv6r&seq=1

Music Credits to:

"Magic Escape Room" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

"Ossuary 1 - A Beginning" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

"Ossuary 5 - Rest" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

"Ossuary 6 - Air" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/victorianparade/support
