Festivals blijven groeien en Belgische artiesten groeien met hen mee. Belgische bands stijgen op de affiche en worden niet meer als 'vulsel' beschouwd. Plots mogen dj's rockfestivals afsluiten. Ook hiphop neemt zijn plaats in. Er wordt minder in hokjes gedacht.

Jazz Bilzen blijft het grootste en belangrijkste festival in de jaren 70, maar in 1975 komen er ook twee kleppers bij: De Lokerse Feesten en (vooral!) Rock Werchter. Werchter gaat aanvankelijk vrij lokaal en amateuristisch van start, maar daar komt snel verandering in.
