[…] Like, I've given up on trying to do things for other people. He's now using his work around the ranch as his only form of exercise. And that's also kind of eating at him. Johnson will conduct certain television interviews beginning in late 1969 with Walter Cronkite. And he does write his memoirs. The book that is published in 1971 is called The Vantage Point, Perspectives of the Presidency, 1963 to 1969. But it isn't going to be as in-depth as what he really wants. But that he's doing through extensive interviews and talks with Doris Kearns, who will later be, of course, Doris Kearns Goodwin, who was a young White House fellow and a Harvard graduate. who Johnson just falls into a really good rapport with and really likes talking to and confessing in.
