'Naar vriendschap zulk een mateloos verlangen.' In deze aflevering bespreekt Jörgen de auteur Jacob Israël de Haan (1881-1924). Een onrustige schrijver die vooral wordt herinnerd als de auteur van Pijpelijntjes, de eerste Nederlandse roman waarin sprake is van een openlijke homoseksuele relatie. Later ontwikkelde hij zich als joods dichter tot de stem van de Nederlandse zionistenbeweging. Hij emigreerde naar Palestina, werd correspondent, raakte bevriend met Arabieren en had kritiek op de zionisten die zich daar gevestigd hadden. De Haan werd als verrader gezien en werd het slachtoffer van een politieke moord.
