Holy Resistance | The Janky Basket Insight
✝️ Ever feel like your life is a "janky" grocery basket? You’re pushing forward, but you’re met with constant resistance, friction, and frustration at every turn. Often, our first instinct is to abandon the cart or blame God for the struggle. But what if that resistance isn't a sign to quit, but a gentle reminder from the Holy Spirit to stay connected to the Vine? In this episode, we dive into the concept of Holy Resistance and the raw, often misunderstood practice of lament. Building on our previous conversation about God as our "Chief HR Officer," we explore how to bring our unfiltered grievances, longings, and losses directly to Him. Using the "wild" language of Psalm 109 and the "Complain, BUT..." pattern found throughout the Psalms, we’ll learn that God doesn't want our polished, "edifying" versions of the truth—He wants our hearts. He can handle your rawest emotions; the only thing He asks is that you keep the cart rolling and trust Him to act. 📖 "Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your faithful love so they may know that this is your hand and that you, LORD, have done it." — Psalm 109:26–27 (CSB) 📖 "Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act." — Psalm 37:5 (CSB) Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • Where are you currently experiencing "resistance" in your life, and have you been trying to navigate it on your own or through the Vine? • Are you grumbling about your situation to others, or are you lamenting to God with the expectation that He will act? • What "vile truths" or deep frustrations have you been hiding from God that you need to finally air out in His presence? 📌 Subscribe to grow deeper in the Word and the Vine. Special Episode on Race for Fuller
This is an Apple Podcasts exclusive episode that I was very hesitant to post. Why was I hesitant to post you ask? Well it's about race...and that's a hot topic. But I had to record it for an assignment in my recent practical theology class at Fuller Theological Seminary. I won't get into the minutiae of the assignment but the general goal was to create a podcast with my group mates - each contributing - in which we discussed race and/or ethnicity. While I can't share the full episode out of respect for my group mates' privacy, I hope you enjoy my contribution that I get to share here on Voice and Vine. But if you didn't enjoy, that's ok too. 📌 Subscribe to grow deeper in the Word and the Vine. This isn’t about platforms—it’s about abiding. Abide. Speak. Trusting God's Plan Over Your Map | Don't Close Your Fist on the Seed
✝️ Are you so focused on the destination that you've stopped enjoying the journey? We're often so desperate to get to the "next thing"—the next goal, the next step, the next exit—that we miss the beauty of God's creation right in front of us. We pull out our own "map" and try to force the plan, losing sight of the path He's laid. In this off-script and reflective episode, I share a personal story from a recent trip to Garvan Woodland Gardens, where a simple moment of trying to find the exit revealed a profound spiritual truth. We'll explore what happens when God plants a "seed" (a dream, a vision, a longing) in our hearts. Do we clench our fist around it, trying to protect it and control its growth? Or do we keep our hands open, allowing Him to provide the light, the water, and the increase in His perfect time? 📖 "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow." — 1 Corinthians 3:6 (CSB) 📖 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." — Proverbs 3:5-6 (CSB) Today's reflection invites you to ask: • What "map" or "destination" are you so focused on that it's causing you to miss the beauty of the journey God has you on right now? • What "seed" (a dream, a calling) has God given you that you've been clenching your fist around, trying to control or protect? • What would it look like for you to truly open your hand and trust God to be the one who gives the increase, even if it takes years? 📌 Subscribe to grow deeper in the Word and the Vine. Keep Your Head on a Swivel, Or Not? | God Runs HR
✝️ Ever feel like you have to keep your head on a swivel—constantly anxious, vigilant, and bracing for the next threat? Do you look at the seemingly easy lives of the arrogant and wonder if your faithfulness is in vain? This constant state of survival mode steals our joy and makes us question God's fairness. In this episode, we find profound rest in the wisdom of Psalm 73. We'll dismantle the exhausting "head on a swivel" mindset and explore a powerful new perspective: God is the supreme HR Officer of our lives. Discover how He manages our ultimate "payroll," "benefits," and "employee relations," freeing us from the burden of envy and the need to control our own safety. Learn how entering His presence is the key to understanding the destiny of the wicked and finding security in our own. 📖 "When I tried to understand all this, it seemed hopeless until I entered God’s sanctuary. Then I understood their destiny." — Psalm 73:16-17 (CSB) 📖 "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever." — Psalm 73:26 (CSB) Today's reflection invites you to ask: • In what areas of your life are you "keeping your head on a swivel," and how is it costing you your peace? • How does viewing God as your "supreme HR Officer" change the way you handle workplace grievances, career anxieties, or envy? • Like Asaph, what "hopeless" situations do you need to bring into God's sanctuary to gain His perspective and understanding? 📌 Subscribe to grow deeper in the Word and the Vine. Give the Lord His Things | The Key to Unshakable Identity
✝️ Ever feel doubtful of who you are or what you're capable of? The truth is, our identity is built on a foundation far greater than ourselves—it's built on the absolute sovereignty of God. When we fail to give Him credit for all that He is, our sense of self becomes fragile. In this episode, we'll dive into the majestic power of our Heavenly Father as revealed in Psalm 29. We'll explore how His unwavering control—from shaking the wilderness to sitting enthroned over the flood—shatters our doubts and secures our identity. We'll learn what it means to truly "give the Lord His things," and how this act of surrender leads to unshakable peace. 📖 Psalm 29 Today's reflection invites you to ask: • How can understanding God's ultimate power silence your self-doubt? • What does it mean to "give the Lord His things" and surrender your need for control? • How does the truth of the "I AM" define your security and purpose? 📌 Subscribe to grow deeper in the Word and the Vine. Lectio Divina | Portion Pt. 2
✝️ This is an invitation to a deeper relationship with God through His Word. In this episode, I’m introducing you to the ancient practice of lectio divina, or “divine reading.” It's a way of reading the Bible not for information, but for transformation—a way to listen for the living voice of God. I'm sharing my personal journey with this practice and how it brought the powerful truth of Psalm 16 and Psalm 17 to life, revealing God as my ultimate portion and illuminating the deep revelations I received through this practice. Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • Are you approaching the Bible with an open heart, ready to hear from God? • How can the practice of lectio divina help you hear God’s voice in a new way? • What does it mean for God to be your "portion," and how can this bring you peace and security? 📖 “Lord, you are my portion and my cup of blessing; you hold my future. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.” — Psalm 16:5-6 (CSB) 📖 “With your hand, Lord, save me from men, from men of the world whose portion is in this life: You fill their bellies with what you have in store; their sons are satisfied, and they leave their surplus to their children.” — Psalm 17:14 (CSB) 📖 “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (CSB)

PSA | Stop Reading Your Bible Like This
✝️ This is a public service announcement: stop reading your Bible in any way not led by the Holy Spirit. In this reflection, I’m challenging the habits and assumptions we bring to God’s Word. Have you ever asked Him which Bible translation is best for you? Have you ever sought His guidance on where to begin reading? I’m sharing a personal testimony of how God led me to the book of Job—before I even knew I needed it—and how it became a lifeline through one of the darkest seasons of my life. Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • Are you seeking God’s direction on how to approach His Word? • Are you relying on study Bibles and commentaries more than the voice of the Holy Spirit? • How can you trust God’s wisdom and timing, especially when you don’t have all the answers? 📖 “Seek His will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” — Proverbs 3:6 (NLT) 📖 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 (NLT) 📖 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” — Jeremiah 17:9 (NLT)

From Roots to Harvest | Spiritual Growth Through the Parts of a Plant
✝️ Just as a plant’s strength, beauty, and fruitfulness depend on each of its parts working together, so does our spiritual growth. From our roots to our seeds, each element plays a critical role in our walk with God. In this reflection, I’m breaking down the six parts of a plant as a parallel for our spiritual journey – how we stay rooted in Christ, how we reach for the light, and how we bear lasting fruit for His kingdom. Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • Are your roots deeply anchored in Christ, drawing from His living water? • What spiritual growth is taking place in the hidden, unseen parts of your life? • How are you investing in others and building a legacy of faith that will outlast you? 📖 “The one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed. He will be like a tree planted by water; it sends its roots out toward a stream, it doesn’t fear when heat comes, and its foliage remains green. It will not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit.” — Jeremiah 17:7-8 (CSB) 📖 “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.” — John 15:5 (CSB) 📖 “Truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains by itself. But if it dies, it produces much fruit.” — John 12:24 (CSB)

From Cursed to Consecrated | The Levites’ Redemption Story
✝️ God can take what others see as flaws—passion, intensity, even past mistakes—and flip them for His glory. The Levites were marked by violence in their early history, but their willingness to stand for the Lord set them apart as His chosen servants. When we draw near to God, He can take our rough edges and refine them for His purposes. Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • What character traits or past actions might God be calling you to redeem for His glory? • How can you step into your calling like the Levites did, becoming a protector of God’s presence in your life? • Are you willing to let God flip your flaws into strengths that serve His kingdom? 📖 “Simeon and Levi are brothers; their knives are vicious weapons. May I never enter their council; may I never join their assembly. For in their anger they kill men, and on a whim they hamstring oxen. Their anger is cursed, for it is strong, and their fury, for it is cruel! I will disperse them throughout Jacob and scatter them throughout Israel.” — Genesis 49:5-7 (CSB) 📖 “So Moses stood at the camp’s entrance and said, ‘Whoever is for the Lord, come to me.’ And all the Levites gathered around him. He told them, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says, “Every man fasten his sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from entrance to entrance, and each of you kill his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.”’ The Levites did as Moses commanded, and about three thousand men fell dead that day. Afterward, Moses said, ‘Today you have been dedicated to the Lord, since each man went against his son and his brother. Therefore you have brought a blessing on yourselves today.’” — Exodus 32:26-29 (CSB) 📖 “Look, I have taken the Levites from the Israelites in place of every firstborn Israelite from the womb. The Levites belong to me, because every firstborn belongs to me. At the time I struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated every firstborn in Israel to myself, both man and animal. They are mine; I am the Lord.” — Numbers 3:12-13 (CSB) 📖 “You have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any portion among them. I am your portion and your inheritance.” — Numbers 18:20 (CSB)

Keep It Simple, Saints | Boast About Your Weakness
✝️ Real strength isn’t about polished words or perfected personas—it’s about God’s power showing up in our weakness. Paul reminds us that the power of the Gospel isn’t in our eloquence or outward strength, but in the cross of Christ and the grace that carries us in our weakest moments. Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • Am I leaning on my own strength or boasting in my weakness for Christ? • Am I staying within the boundaries of what God has called me to? • Am I comparing myself to others or finding contentment in the lane God gave me? 📖 “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ will not be emptied of its effect.” — 1 Corinthians 1:17 (CSB) 📖 “This is what the Lord says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth. But the one who boasts should boast in this: that he understands and knows me— that I am the Lord, showing faithful love, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for I delight in these things. This is the Lord’s declaration.” — Jeremiah 9:23-24 (CSB) 📖 “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (CSB)

Serving Isn't About Comparison | A Call to Fullness & Freedom
✝️ True serving isn’t about shrinking—it’s about surrender. It’s about letting go of resentment, comparison, and timetables. About realizing God created even the small spaces we try to compress ourselves into. About remembering that freedom isn't tied to a conference, a schedule, or a plan—freedom is tied to a Person. This weekend, God reminded me that even when I try to minimize myself for the sake of others, He still calls me to be full in Him. He still meets me where I am—and invites me to carry my mantle boldly. Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • Am I shrinking back from my calling because of comparison? • Am I trying to manage God's timing instead of surrendering to it? • Do I serve out of resentment—or gratitude and freedom? No filters. No performance. Just truth—spoken in the quiet, and rooted in the Vine. 📖 "Let each person examine his own work, and then he can take pride in himself alone, and not compare himself with someone else. For each person will have to carry his own load." — Galatians 6:4-5 (CSB) 📖 “If the Son sets you free, you really will be free." — John 8:36 (CSB)

Jonah’s Story Isn’t About the Whale | A Mirror for the Heart
✝️ The story of Jonah isn’t about the whale—it’s about the heart. It’s about how easily we forget the mercy we’ve received. How quickly we want judgment for others but grace for ourselves. How even obedience can be hollow when it’s disconnected from compassion. Jonah’s story is a mirror—a warning against spiritual pride and a reminder of the mercy that covers us even when our hearts are slow to change. Today’s reflection invites you to ask: • Am I obeying God outwardly but resisting Him inwardly? • Am I willing to celebrate when mercy is given—even when I wouldn’t have given it? • Do I remember that I am here by mercy alone? No filters. No performance. Just truth—spoken in the quiet, and rooted in the Vine. 📖 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5

Welcome to Voice & Vine | Jonah, Mercy, & Why I Had to Speak
✝️ Inspired by the story of Jonah and a real moment of running out of gas, I learned—again—that delayed obedience is still disobedience, and that mercy doesn’t wait at the finish line. It meets us on the side of the road. This is not just a story—it’s a mirror. A reminder that: God chooses whom He shows mercy to. We don’t get to decide who deserves grace—He does. We can’t make it on our own strength—we need the Vine. Whether you’ve been running, stalling, or just trying to go “a little further” on empty—this is your call to stop, listen, and surrender. No filters. No performance. Just truth—spoken in the quiet, and rooted in the Vine. 📖 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5
