Voices of Courage with Ken D Foster S10EP11, Come Home to Nature with Michael Schauch What happens to the human spirit when we spend our days indoors, online, and overwhelmed? We get louder, faster, and more divided, and we forget the stillness that already lives inside us. In this episode of Voices of Courage, we explore why reconnecting with nature is one of the most powerful things you can do to quiet the mind, open the heart, and remember who you really are. Host Ken D Foster is joined by alpinist and award-winning author Michael Schauch. He has climbed deep into the Himalaya, and he brings back a message about connection, courage, and what nature can teach us about ourselves. Michael is a mountaineer, author, and member of the Explorers Club. His first book, A Story of Karma: Finding Love and Truth in the Lost Valley of the Himalaya, was published by Rocky Mountain Books and has earned praise from Wade Davis, Stephen Cope, and Paula Arai, as well as Kirkus Reviews and BlueInk (starred). For over a decade, he has mentored and supported Tibetan Buddhist youth in Kathmandu, Nepal. His writing has appeared in Elephant Journal, Unity Magazine, and Thrive Global. He holds an MBA from Queen's University and lives in Squamish, BC, with his wife, Chantal. His newest book, Anattā: Heart of Wisdom (Hohm Press), weaves contemplative essays and poetry with stories from the Himalaya to explore the Buddhist idea of "non-self" and how nature restores our sense of belonging. Key Takeaways: Why is nature a mirror that reveals the patterns of your own mind? How does stepping into the wild help you reconnect with what truly matters? What the Buddhist idea of shunyata means, and how it loosens the grip of fixed stories about who you are? How resolving conflict within yourself is the starting point for peace with others? Practical ways to quiet the mind, dissolve reactive habits, and respond with compassion Guest links:Website: https://www.michaelschauch.com #VoicesOfCourage #TheCourageNetwork #KenDFoster #VOCS10EP11 #MichaelSchauch #ConnectWithNature #NatureAndMindfulness #Alpinist #Himalaya #Anatta #NonSelf #Mindfulness #Compassion #InnerPeace #SpiritualGrowth #PersonalGrowth #Stillness #Courage #AStoryOfKarma #NatureHealing

Voices of Courage with Ken D Foster The Inner Way: Reclaiming the Truth of Who You Are with Steve Farrell Ken D. Foster talks with Humanity's Team co-founder Steve Farrell about walking away from Silicon Valley success, the book he calls "The Inner Way," and what it looks like to practice oneness when life gives you a reason to react instead. A Journey That Requires You to Go Nowhere Ken D. Foster opens Voices of Courage with a clip of Steve Farrell describing a path he calls The Inner Way, then rolls the show's theme music before returning to formally welcome listeners. Foster asks what if the achievement, money and purpose people chase have been waiting for them all along, right where they already stand, and frames the hour as a courageous journey inward, beyond personality, titles and circumstance. He draws on the Upanishads' question of who is truly observing one's life, the Bhagavad Gita's teaching on the unchanging Atman and a life guided by Dharma, and the Vedas' claim that separation is ultimately illusion, arguing that competition can become contribution once people sense themselves as expressions of a larger consciousness. Foster introduces Steve Farrell, noting he built real Silicon Valley success before discovering that outward achievement could not answer a deeper calling rising within him. Introducing Steve Farrell and Humanity's Team Foster formally welcomes Steve Farrell, thanking him for joining, and Farrell calls himself excited for the conversation. Foster introduces Farrell as co-founder and worldwide executive director of Humanity's Team, a global nonprofit helping people awaken to the interconnectedness of life, and notes Farrell previously co-founded two fast-growing Silicon Valley technology companies recognized on the Inc. 500 before feeling called toward something deeper. Foster explains Farrell went on to co-found Humanity's Team with Conversations with God author Neale Donald Walsch, and is the author of A New Universal Dream and the new book, which Foster's introduction calls The Inn-Way, subtitled Reclaiming the Truth of Who You Are and Why You Are Here. Asked directly why humanity is here, Farrell answers that life is precious and should be lived so that, looking back, a person can say an honest yes, invoking Stephen Covey's habit of beginning with the end in mind. Why Steve Left Silicon Valley Behind Foster asks Farrell how he walked away from what millions of people chase: the money, the house, the car. Farrell describes two companies he co-founded in the 1990s that grew to 75 million dollars, his seats in the Young Entrepreneurs' and Young Presidents' Organizations, private jets and private ski areas. He says he realized it wasn't there, pointing to a confidential group called forum where successful people admitted their marriages and relationships were often not pretty underneath the achievement. Farrell says he felt fulfilled by what he built but not by what it meant for the world; he didn't see himself helping create something more sustainable. Asked whether a part of his identity had to die, Farrell says he had to release the alpha-male posture of Silicon Valley venture offices, take off his social mask, and accept losing close friends who didn't understand why he was leaving the pack behind. A Preexisting Reality of Entanglement Foster asks who Steve Farrell is once the entrepreneur, author and father labels are stripped away. Farrell answers that before he dies, what matters is understanding a preexisting reality that science itself now describes: everything entangled, nothing truly separate, each person deeply affecting the others. He says people were raised instead inside a conditioned, almost fictional reality taught by parents and schools, and that research into oneness reveals people as waves on an ocean or cells in a larger body. Foster connects this to entanglement theory, quantum mechanics and neuroscience, suggesting science is only now confirming teachings

Voices of Courage with Ken D Foster How Poetry Heals: Words, Seasonal Affective Disorder and Transcendence with Norman Rosenthal Ken D. Foster talks with psychiatrist and author Dr. Norman Rosenthal about how poetry can heal grief and trauma, why he first described seasonal affective disorder, and how Transcendental Meditation shapes his forthcoming book on unity. A Show Built On the Power of Words Ken D. Foster opens Voices of Courage with a preview of the conversation to come, reading a few lines from a poem before rolling the show's intro theme and returning to formally welcome listeners. He tells his audience that words carry an energy, a frequency and a vibration connected deeply to the psyche, and that reading a poem can make the world seem to disappear, carrying a listener back into memory or forward into peace and presence. Foster mentions that he has spent roughly thirty years writing poems himself and has a forthcoming poetry collection called "Echoes of Courage and Grace: Reflections from the Journey Within." He explains that poetry can bypass people's defenses, awaken memory, reveal truth and restore hope in ways ordinary words sometimes cannot. He then introduces his guest, a psychiatrist he says will help listeners understand where words can transform how they think, communicate and show up in the world. Introducing Dr. Norman Rosenthal Foster formally introduces Dr. Norman Rosenthal, welcoming him back to the show and describing him as a psychiatrist who understands darkness from both a scientific and deeply human perspective. He notes that Rosenthal led the team that first described seasonal affective disorder, known as SAD, and that his pioneering work on light therapy has helped millions of people, along with his exploration of meditation, adversity and resilience. Foster highlights Rosenthal's book "Poetry Rx: How 50 Inspiring Poems Can Heal and Bring You Joy to Your Life," calling him a New York Times best-selling author. Rosenthal thanks Foster for having him back. Foster explains he wants to start with poetry, calling it a door to the soul, and mentions his niece in Washington, D.C. who is depressed, wondering aloud whether Rosenthal's book might help her. He asks directly why Rosenthal wrote "Poetry Rx" and what the book is about, opening the door for Rosenthal's story about a phone call with a grieving friend. The Origin Story and Why Words Heal Rosenthal tells Foster the book began with a phone call from a grieving friend who had lost someone dear and asked how he would ever manage. Rosenthal told him that losing is an art that, like any art form, can be developed, prompting his friend to read Elizabeth Bishop's villanelle "One Art" aloud over the phone. Rosenthal recalls feeling the man's relief and his own sense of elation, realizing in that moment that words can actually heal. Foster then asks Rosenthal, as a scientist and psychiatrist, why words heal at all. Rosenthal explains that words carry both meaning and music, a combination that has drawn people around fires for thousands of years to share poetry that produces hope, potency or anger. He says this taps into primitive cognitive and visceral areas of the mind. Foster asks how a poem that triggers anger can still lead someone toward peace, and Rosenthal answers with Dylan Thomas's "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night," written to his dying father, reading several lines aloud. Grief, Struggle and the Music of Words The conversation moves through several more poems Rosenthal has collected. He reads "Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep," telling the story of a Baltimore woman who wrote it for a German refugee unable to return to her dying mother during World War II, and says it gave the most comfort to people he has shared it with who were grieving or dying themselves. He then reads Theodore Roethke's "The Waking," describing how the Pulitzer Prize winner captured the daily struggle of simply getting up in the morning. Foster
