Robert Estrin: A Teacher Lineage: Martin-Pierre Marsick - From the Piano Expert
https://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/experts/robert/a-teacher-lineage-martin-pierr/ - Having studied with Lambert Massart at the Conservatoire de Paris and Joseph Joachim at the Berlin Hochschule, Martin Pierre Marsick built a reputation as one of the most sought-after violin teachers of his day. Students recalled that he was demanding, inflexible, and maybe even a little arrogant. And at 20 francs a lesson, he was without question one of the most expensive teachers in Paris at the time. Then, in 1892, he was named professor at the Conservatoire de Paris, taking over from Eugène Sauzay, who retired. His time there, however, would be short—just eight years, from 1892 to 1900. In this masterclass on Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Robert Estrin shares a transformative phrasing secret borrowed from wind players. Learn why rushing through long notes ruins the iconic impressionistic mood, and discover how to practice without the sustain pedal to turn mechanical notes into a singing vocal line.

Robert Estrin: Why Adults Learn Piano Faster Than Children - From the Music Expert
https://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/experts/robert/why-adults-learn-faster-than-c/ - For generations, prospective pianists have been fed the exact same toxic myth: if you didn’t start playing by age seven, don't even bother. In this video, veteran piano instructor Robert Estrin blows this misconception wide open. Backed by neurological studies on adult brain plasticity, Robert breaks down the unfair cognitive advantages adults have over children—from analytical meta-awareness to life experience—and reveals how to weaponize your age to master complex repertoire like Beethoven faster than a kid ever could.
