[…] Asheville is setting aside $5 million in federal disaster recovery funding for a workforce program as the city recovers from Helene. The program will focus on low to moderate income residents with training for jobs including construction, heavy equipment operation, and restoration. Rather than pay people directly, Asheville plans to award grants to nonprofits, schools, and public agencies. The grants will support training, employer connections, and services aimed at removing barriers to finding and keeping work. City staff is developing details with local organizations and expects to publish a program manual by late December. […]
