3 Reasons Why You Want To Change In 2021

In this podcast we are going to learn how to create not just SMART goals but SMARTER ones. It's the last week of the first month of 2021 and this is when we usually decide whether our new year's resolution is worth pursuing or purging out from our system. You see, when we make decisions it's usually because we want to run away from pain or we want to pursue pleasure. Whatever is our motive behind our action it is clear that we need to adapt to change in order to meet the demands of the future. With this in mind, we need a roadmap where we can navigate around roadblocks to meet our goals. A wise saying goes, "Failing to plan is planning to fail." But planning without considering these key points to reach our goals can sometimes be overwhelming. In nursing we were taught to base our nursing care plan around the acronym SMART. Our Goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound. If you were to be asked, "How do you eat an elephant?" - the task sounds so impossible and time consuming that it's easy to say, "Forget it!". But if you know that your goal is non-negotiable, when you know that the pain is worse to stay where you are, compared to the challenges you have to face to meet your goal in order to survive, you will find ways to "eat the elephant" one bite at a time. Aim High And Keep On Moving Forward

In this podcast I shared my experience while I was going up our mountain place about 4,000 feet elevation one winter morning. It was a clear and sunny day but my faith was put to a test when I almost drifted on a glassy road and a huge tree fell across the road that blocked my way. I stopped on my way up and decided to document my experience. I had the option to turn around and go back home, but I chose to climb up that mountain even when I knew I only had my winter tires and no chain. Sometimes we don't feel we have everything we need when we journey through life, but that shouldn't stop us from moving forward. I hope my experience will inspire you not to be deterred by difficulties in pursuing your dream. Ready or not life moves on. All we need to do is adapt because this is how we grow. We cannot stay in one spot and expect everything to happen. Sometimes we need to leave where we are and make things happen. It is not always an easy journey. Sometimes we have to step forward even before God parts the Red Sea. Sometimes we fall on a ditch along the way but we need to learn how to move forward despite the difficulties. That is how our faith grow. That is one thing we need to realize that exercise is not just for strong muscles. In order to build strong faith, we also need to exercise trusting in the unknown, trusting that Somebody is just waiting for us to make the move. We need to learn to recognize the opportunity to grown in every difficult situation we face. An inspirational speaker said he doesn't think opportunity knocks on the door. He believes that opportunity is standing outside the door waiting for us to acknowledge and recognize it. There was a major event in 2020 that affected the entire world. For some of us, it makes us fearful and hesitant to step into the new year wondering how it's going to be. Some also move forward but very timidly, always on the defensive side. We need to listen to ourselves. At the same time, we also need to talk to ourselves because most of the time, if not all of the time we are our worst enemy.  If we fell short of our expectation, we need to learn to cheer ourselves to try again. Our success and progress greatly rely on what we tell ourselves. So we need to start believing that we can do it. Because however we read inspirational books, however we get mentored and coached by anyone to move ahead, if we don't have the belief that we can do it, we won't be able to step one foot forward. I hope the little wins and success we get everyday won't stop us to aim for more. An inspiring speaker once said, "We fail not because we aim too high and miss, but because we aim too low and hit." So aim high and keep on moving forward.

How A Simple Breathing Exercise Can Improve Your Mood And Lung Health

It’s good to have some activity where we can get some air going to our lungs. It could be in a form of exercise like brisk walking or jogging. This is true especially when we feel down or depressed. In order to have a clear mind, we need to make sure we get some oxygen in our system. We are in a pandemic and mostly advised to wear a mask. Wearing a mask definitely helps to prevent us from inhaling anything that can make us sick, but we also need to make sure we give our body the fresh and sanitary air that it needs. Now, how do you know if your lungs are healthy? It’s good to know especially during this time when it’s easy to have respiratory illness. Let’s do some breathing exercises to find out. If you can perform this simple deep breathing exercise without any problem you know you have healthy lungs. We know that our body needs oxygen and it has to get rid of carbon dioxide. This process takes place in our alveoli. The alveoli are the tiny air sacs at the end of the bronchioles (tiny branches of air tubes in the lungs). That is where the lungs and the blood exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide during the process of breathing in and breathing out. I’d like you to remember 3 things from this podcast today: If you are happy, breathe… If you are sad, breathe… If you are scared, breathe… May this simple deep breathing exercise help you to achieve clarity of mind and serve as a catalyst to energize your spirit to move forward and be a channel of peace and love, despite the chaos and hatred in the world today.
